Guess what I tried doing, last night...?
If you read the title of this blog entry, and know how smooth and silky my current Dev-Kit is, you've probably guessed "A quick iOS Compile", and, of course, you'd be right!
I'm currently midway through attempting to get a Free "LITE" edition of SpikeDislike3 onto the App Store.

Hunting for Files

As I poke and prod around my new NAS drive, there are still gaps remaining.
My Midi and Mod archive is entirely missing. I never did manage to get them from my old hard drives, and now I'm starting to wonder how on earth I'm going to manage to do it.
For the most part, the Mod Archive can be re-grabbed from Aminet, where I originally got most of it. But there were various other sites that have been and gone in that time, which had wonderful tunes.
My Min...

After a game's release, half the fun is watching the aftermath, and scrawling the internet for comments.
On this occasion, however, I pretty much know what's coming.
Invisible Munky 2 isn't a game that I'm expecting to be popular, or fondly remembered, (it hasn't thus far, anyway..) so any comments and feedback will be minimal.

A busy day, yesterday, as I set about building more of those Mission/Level things for SpikeDislike3.
I've now got marginally different Mission modes for 10 of the 13 themes, although "Super X!" seems to appear a fair number of times!
With only 3 more sets of levels to create, I'm pretty much nearing the end of development, although there's a bunch more extra bits that I might end up throwing in.
Anyway, I figured now's about as good a time as any, to give you a...

Yesterday I took some time to create a Choon to go along with the dark lava theme, and although it wasn't exactly what I aimed for, it does fit the gameplay reasonably well.

My laptop's been running slow, sluggish, juddery and .. generally BAD, since some time yesterday, and as much as I hunt the system, I'm struggling to find the reason why.
I think it might have something to do with Windows noticing the Mac on the network, and freaking out, thinking it's going to be replaced!
.. Acting all slow and useless isn't going to get you extra loving, Windows! Learn how to show off your skills, and act like a proper computer!!
Even as I...

Release
22nd August 2014
Last week saw the two year anniversary of (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/2012/08/home-again-home-again-jiggity-jig/">this post), where I waffled and rambled on about my health condition. Mum suggested it was about time to write an update, so this is that!
Two years on, and although I'm marginally better, I'm still somewhat stuck in a fairly similar position.

I woke up late, this morning, and felt somewhat lethargic. I tried doing a bit of coding, but nothing seemed to fall into place, and I couldn't really be bothered to tackle anything.
I closed the laptop before dinner, and opted to give up on the day.
Here's what happened on my day off..

There are hundreds of great sites that I should probably link to, and much like linking to my hundreds of games, I've always found it a bit of a mess once I start trying to cram it all into a small sidebar on the right of the site.
As such, I've finally opted to create one great big link-page, full of everything I could think of within the short hour or so that it took to add it!
If you're missing from this page, let me know!!

Or, as the titlescreen would have you call it, "Greenie's Little Adventure"
Feel free to use either of the two titles!
Welcome back!
AGameAWeek starts anew, this week, with a nice little remake of a game I made a good 7 or 8 years ago.
My original "The Quest" game took a board-game-style approach, but never really got very far due to the limits and oddities of trying to play a board game on a computer. It felt strange to have to roll dice all the time, and the battles were never tha...

AGameAWeek Gold looks back at some of the best, and worst, games that have been previously released on this day in history.
Today's game from the archive is a lovely little arena battler, with lots of weapons and things to shoot!

September's over, and I've had a lot of fun bulking up BlastTrax, and playing GTAV!
The plan was, come October, I'd get straight back to business.
I'd upload BlastTrax's big update, and then start doing AGameAWeek again.
The reality is slightly different, for two main reasons.

This week, (URL "https://twitter.com/caffeinekid">@CaffeineKid) released his latest Android-based remake, a classic from the world of the 80s!!
A lovely retro game from the age of static screens, and proper dungeon crawling, where the game had to have actual gameplay, because in those days, you couldn't rely on 50 bazillion polygons to wow the audience. You had to have a bloody good game!!!

I'm not very good with "New features" so we'll give this a few weeks before we call it a permanent new feature, but I thought it was about time I start giving shoutouts to some of the other indies and their wonderful games that occasionally blip across my twitter feed, from time to time.

General rule in life : Don't Poke the Bear.
Other similar expressions include tidbits such as "That's just the way it is", and references to Burning Bridges..
Over the past few days, I've heard pretty much every single one of these, and a whole host more.
About a week ago, IGN posted a trailer for SpikeDislike2.

Last week, one of my quickly cobbled together test tunes for JMTrackr was the old Manic Miner ingame music. If you download JMtrackr, you'll find it in the Retro folder.
I created it quickly, made a little mp3 of it in random mode, and plopped it up on Socoder.
People seemed to fall in love with the idea of me making a Manic Miner clone, and over the course of the past few days, that's escalated somewhat..
People really seem to want me to make a Manic Miner type thing.

You know what I hate?
Icons.
You might've noticed that very few of my games include icons.
Not only do I hate having to draw icons, I also hate having to create 70,000 bazillion different sizes for every sodding size that might be needed.

News, today, of a new Sitcom under development at HBO.
HBO are converting Indie Game The Movie into a sitcom!
A sitcom based on a bunch of videogame developers?
How on earth would THAT work!?!

Another day, another install..
About 12 months ago, my bedroom PC basically crapped it's pants, and became an inexplicably unusable box that sat in the corner of the room.
Knowing I'd need to format, I hunted for the Vista install disc, then remembered that..
A) Vista didn't bloody well come with one (Buying from Comet would've been handy, there!)

And I've still got a todo-list as long as my leg!!!
If I want a few people to beta-test the final-ish edition, that's gotta be done by about Wednesday, I think.
So, I have about 5 days or so to get everything done, now.
After that, hope for the best, and get everything bundled for the coming Sunday.

Saturday's my "At work for a while" day, so I usually get a lot less codey time done, but I still managed quite a few bits and pieces in the morning.
A couple of new baddies, and a teensy bit of AI are in there, as is something which may or may not be confusing, depending on whether you remember the 7 year old oddity or not.
Suffice to say, the bananas do definitely appear to be coming from below the arrow.
.. not sure what that's all about..

On Tuesday, things had started to go annoyingly slowly..
That part where the number of bug fixes grossly outweighs the number of fun happy additions you can be enjoying adding to your game.
But I did a lot of fixes on Tuesday!
