Late last night, NeonPlat Raw appeared on the OUYA Dashboard for the very first time. This is kind of a big deal, in that it's the first time one of my games has officially been released on an actual physical home-console. True, it's not a "PROPER" console, but .. Hey, it's a box with a controller that plugs into my telly. And it's got my games on it! So, Hell yeah, It's proper enough to me!! If you have an OUYA, you can grab (URL "https://www.ouya.tv/game/NeonPlat-Raw">NeonPlat Raw) for it. It's...

I can't exactly say I've been enjoying the time off.. To be honest, 95% of September was spent working on the big BlastTrax update, and so far most of October has been similarly working on Sheep Goes Right. It's actually a heck of a lot of stuff to cram into such a short amount of time, and it's been so much effort that I've been neglecting AGameAWeek. But.. You know.. They're both nice big games, and they're both sort of worth the effort. Or at least, I think so, anyway! Meanwhile I've gone and boug...

Sorry folks, I appear to have gotten bogged down with Sheep Goes Right. Although I figured it'd be a nice simple little project that I could work on "behind the scenes", it's once again proved that I never can plan ahead!! Sheep Goes Right has now become a much bigger project, and as I'm currently working on a way to make level building easier, I'm having to deal with all the testing that goes with it. I'd forgotten how much time proper level building actually takes up!! (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/w...

September is nearly over, and I've played a good six or seven hours of GTAV. Hmm.. Anyhoo, I've been working away at BlastTrax and have done quite a fair amount of work on the thing. I should be uploading the new edition to Apple in the next couple of days, (I have to faff about updating my MacMini first, though) so watch out for that appearing on your iPhing in the next week or so. After that it's time to get back into the AGameAWeek swing of things, and I'm tempted to do another slightly larger pr...

What's with the track?

BlastTrax was originally devised as a classic Retro-styled GrandPrix-like racing game, with weapons. You would drive through the course, shoot the other drivers, and make your way through to the end. I started work on the game, made a nice retro-styled GrandPrix racetrack, added a few little cars, and then.. .. And that was when (URL "https://www.foppygames.nl/">@FoppyGames) decided to launch his Retro-styled GrandPrix racing game. D'oh! True, min...

Rather than have a bunch of different posts all over the place, as usually seems to be the case here, I thought I'd create a game-specific page and dump all the reviews onto it. <img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/BlastTrax_Logo.png"> BlastTrax seems to be gaining a teensy bit of attention, although exactly how much of that is due to one particular reviewer bombarding me with his over-excitement, thus making it feel like there's a bunch of excitement when in fact it's only his own exc...

BlastTrax has passed iOS Review, so all is looking good for it's target August 27th release date. Since the game is now up on the AppStore, but currently locked tight until the release date, I thought I'd have a bit of fun with it, so I posted the following challenge onto Twitter. Over the course of July, I'll be working on a nice new edition of RetroRaider. It currently looks a lot like the old versions, but I'm hoping to tweak things quite a bit, this time around. No idea how well this'll turn out, but .. It oughta be good! So, in honor of July being RetroRaider month, here's a nice new RetroRaider Desktop. As we head into July, I've decided to dig my heels in, and aim for another bigger project. Much like April's "Stringy Things" month, this will probably take over the usual AGameAWeek schedule, resulting in a smaller number of releases over the course of the month. .. hopefully, it doesn't run into a dead end, like Stringy Things did! For this project, I'll be using TWO languages. Monkey will be the main language, and DevKitPro/PALib will be the ported languages, for DS Homebrew. 'cor! The target...

Every Single Week

Not Good Advice

The following is not advice, and should not be taken as such. People often ask me how I manage to do AGameAWeek. Particularly, how I manage to cram everything into a single week, and then somehow manage to do exactly the same thing every other week, without going crazy. What follows might possibly help you understand a little more of what goes on in the world of AGameAWeek. Or it might just be a whole bunch of rambling waffling text. Not sure!! ...

Now you can hop from your pocket, as Hoppy Bobby makes his way onto iOS! The initial release is FREE, so you've no excuse not to grab it. At a later point, I'd like to make a bigger-longer-better adventure mode, and add achievements and things, too. That'll be a Pay-for edition, but for now the original's there, and it's just as swear-inducing as ever! As unplanned as AGameAWeek usually is, I at least have a rough idea of what'll be occurring. Tuesdays, release a game. Wednesday's think about a game idea. Thursday/Friday start a game. Saturday/Sunday bulk the game out where necessary/possible, and Monday finish things up before we release it on Tuesday and start it all over again. Along the way, we get trips into the AGameAWeek Gold archive, and there are other oddities like the Uninteresting Wallpapers, and other silly little things. (URL "https:...

Apologies that this post has taken me so long to publish. I actually wrote most of it about 3 months ago, when I first released SpikeDislike2, but it's been sat on my Mac on a Sticky Note, and I kinda forgot all about it! I remembered it, the other day, when I submitted SpikeDislike2-Lite to Apple. What follows is a checklist/guide for compiling your (URL "https://monkeycoder.co.nz">Monkey-coded) game onto iOS.

Or to give it it's full name, "One of These Will Kill You!". This week's game is a semi-remake of sorts, but one which feels a little more complete than the original version. Originally created as a PlayMyCode game, this version adds bonuses, along with some more obvious gameplay mechanics. You should be able to follow along, this time around!

Oooh, nearly forgot about this feature! Whoops! Anyway, as I was sat wondering which of my current two projects to tackle, this morning, I inevitably decided to waste a few minutes making something entirely unrelated. This month's wallpaper used two separate programs!! First, the Windows program PaintShop Pro 7 was used to doodle the sprite, and get the image up to a nice big resolution, then the iPad App Pixlr Express+ was used to add a nice filter over the top. Does that make it more interesting?...

General rule in life : Don't Poke the Bear. Other similar expressions include tidbits such as "That's just the way it is", and references to Burning Bridges.. Over the past few days, I've heard pretty much every single one of these, and a whole host more. About a week ago, IGN posted a trailer for SpikeDislike2. A few little things annoyed me about it, like the advert, and the watermark, but I initially let them pass. After all, IGN Exposure, right!? Woot! Then I noticed another littl...

An occasional trip down memory lane, to take a look at games that I've previously released on this day in history. Much like every other element of AGameAWeek, these can sometimes be great games that you'll play for hours, or bags of garbage that you throw away after ten seconds of looking at it at going "Umm.. no thanks!" Before anyone complains, no, this is not a game! This week's release is a "Utility!" ooooh! Don't worry, I won't be making a habit out of this. To be honest, I was kinda expecting to be able to half-ass a game, this week, but I've spent so much time on this, that I just didn't get around to it. No matter, this is a silly little plaything, and if you're even slightly musically capable you'll probably get a kick out of it.
