DevelopmentsDid I miss a day?! Yeah, I basically didn't want to make a "Still full of flu!" post, so.. I didn't! Anyhoo, back to coding, and Karl's Tiny Adventure (which is next on the fixup list) has a bit of a bug in it, when played on the GameStick. The music is hopping and skipping about like some sort of broken record. I'm really not sure why that's happening, but today I'll be trawling through my timing code to see if I can figure it out. I imagine it might be that it's heavily ...Views 12, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsYesterday's task was to get basically collectables, items, that kind of thing to work properly. I haven't yet added the whole lot, but thought that one useful "collectable" might be a checkpoint. DevelopmentsThe next edition of SpikeDislike3 will come with 5 brand new themes, each with a unique playstyle. In much the same way that SpikeDislike2 had it's Barry the Bee and Sheep Goes Right themes, this one will include a batch of themes that all mess about with the controls, and do things a little differently. The first attempt is, of course, the classic "Chase the Train" mode, which you might remember from the (URL "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcbquXypuwc">Mastertronic 8-bit cla...Views 13, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsMy Socoder site has been mostly inaccessible for about 18 or so hours, now. I'm trying to sort it out, but there seems to be something wrong with the file system on the server. It's acting very strangely. I've asked GoDaddy to do a server-restore, but if things are still.. .. weird.. I'll have to ask for a complete overhaul of my server. Very strange behaviour. Due to all of that madness, I've had little/no time to code anything. I spent what little time I had, yesterday, ...Views 16, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsFor all that I've done over the years, I rarely get noticed. I'm ok with that, but other people see "Made LOADS of games, never got noticed" as some kind of terrible failure. Instead, I see it as just a fun little hobby, and I continue to do what I do because I still get enjoyment from it, after all these many many (many!) years. Recently, somebody stumbled onto my site. I'm not sure how, whether it be via my GameJolt archive, or something to do with SpikeDislike3, or whatever...Views 37, Upvotes 3

DevelopmentsWell it's about sodding time!!! After just over a week and a half, Invisible Munky 2's finally gotten through Apple Review, and is now available on the AppStore. Unfortunately, for some bizarre reason that I've not yet tracked down, the "Promo Codes" button appears to be completely missing from iTunesConnect. For this game, I was hoping to dish out a few promo codes to folk with different devices, to ensure the game runs as it oughta on those iPhings. Due to my lack of ability...Views 18, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsI spent a lot of yesterday faffing about with the "Start" screen of SpikeDislike3. At first I intended to have a giant spike be in the center of the screen, and in fact that's what happened for quite a while, but .. I'm not sure why, but I decided to switch to circles instead. Reusing my generic stripy circle from my basic menu meant I didn't have to redraw anything, and the new "Start" screen looks rather neat. .. or at least, for something I've done, it does! I spent some t...Views 30, Upvotes 6

I say "slow", but of course, I mean "Slow in the realm of AGameAWeek!"
I've been working on Invisible Munky 2 for nearly THREE WEEKS, now! Blimey, that went fast!
I'm currently working on building levels, and trying to keep the momentum of the game flowing in a decent manner. I'm also trying to add a decent mix of music, but it's all kinda samey. I might have to head in a completely different melodical direction, or something. *shrugs* Not sure!
Anyway, the game currently contains 9 levels, and the...

People keep asking about how I manage to code AGameAWeek, and one thing they all eventually pick up on is that I'm currently doing it all with Monkey.
(URL "https://monkeycoder.co.nz">Monkey) is a fantastic language which allows for all manner of different targets, and does a great job doing what it does.
It isn't perfect, and it's not for everyone, but it suits me down to the ground.
As with any development tool, it all comes down to preference, and whether or not you agree with the methodology o...

@Madgarden's wonderful little retro shooter has finally been released to iOS, this week, so that's getting the Weekend Retreat treatment!
It makes quite a change from AGameAWeek's fast pacing and insane difficulty levels, as you leisurely float from side to side, gently blasting away at the bad guys!

For the past few years, I've been building and rebuilding a silly little experimental shooter thing called "Horizontal Shooter"
The basic gist is that it's a bog standard horizontal shooter, but with a weird control scheme, and a tail to catch things in.
I also tend to use Horizontal Shooter as a simple testbed, to see what a language can/can't achieve in the realms of simplistic blurry lovelyness.
This time around, since we're also focusing on mobile devices, I've decided to flip things around, and ma...

A lot of elements are currently coming together, and things are getting a little more chaotic than I'd like them to be around Xmas time.
If the past 2 years of Xmas themed chaos (12 games of Xmas, Advent Collection) have taught me one thing, it's not to EVER plan anything around Xmas!
Presents, family visits and the general filling of my face with Xmas cake, will usually get in the way of the coding time, and as such I decided not to push myself into anything moronic this year.
I apologise if you're deep...

When I was building the beta versions of NeonPlat Adventures, it always included a little readme file.
The final release didn't have one, but I figured that was ok, because it was so simple it didn't really need one.
The original readme was only really there to explain that beta peeps shouldn't mention the Calendar, and then I kinda rambled on a bit!
Anyhoo, if you find yourself in desperate need of a readme file, this is it!

Slow Down......

Much as I expected, the initial burst of NeonPlat Adventure building, has now dropped to a stupidly slow rate.
I'm currently flicking through all the possibilities for standard baddies, and super-evil-mega-boss baddies.
Will the boss baddies be entirely seperate entities?
Or will they, like previous NeonPlat games, be the same baddies, but megasized!?
And what enemy types will work!?
I've already cut out the unpopular "squishy" baddy.
People didn't like him, because he wasn't catchab...
