Last week, you threw the ball.
This week, you bounce the ball.
It's almost like a theme, or something!!

I usually try my best to come up with unique or interesting takes on existing games. Taking things in new directions, like Blockman which definitely isn't Pacman, or TetriPong which clumped together two completely different games.
Occasionally, though, it's nice to sit back, relax, and make a crazy lazy clone of something, just like everyone else.

I don't normally do "Postmortem" type blog posts, but figured I might as well start.
Not sure whether this will become a regular thing, or not, but I thought it'd be nice to keep track of what happens after I post each game.
In future I might leave it until a good few days have passed, but the world of AGameAWeek tends to flow fairly rapidly. We'll have to judge it as it happens.
Anyway, welcome to the newest section of AGameAWeek, where I take a look at the stats and things, to help figu...

Welcome to the wonderfully colourful retro-styled world of Retroball!
A spectacular remake of the bat and ball classic, but with all new rules, combo scoring, and even a few powerups along the way.

After this week's dire disappointment, I decided to go ahead and try to make something a little more.. um.. Gamey!!
So, I went way-way-way-way-way-way back to basics, and made a Pong game..

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013
No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention!
Sucks!!
So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list.

Yet another case of AGameAWeek Gold being strangely interconnected with other events in my life!!
Today, I posted about Star Trek Pong 3 earlier today, and it got me thinking about the even older Amiga edition.
Curiously, I also recently purchased a USB Capture device for my PC. I wanted to output all my consoles and computers through my PC's monitor. It has a HDMI port, but a Scart->HDMI device seemed a little pricey.
Being the cheapskate that I am, I instead settled for a Capture de...

AGameAWeek Gold is our occasional glance through the archive, to pluck out some of the great games that I've created over the many years that I've been doing this.
Along the way we'll discover some great gems that I'd forgotten about, or occasionally the odd bit of garbage that I'm frankly happy to have forgot about!
Today, we take a look at a strange little Pong game!

I really do find myself in a bit of a baffled state over this one.
As the AGameAWeek guy, I'm certainly used to shrugging off failed releases, and in many ways this one should be exactly the same.
This is simply one of many releases that I've made this year, and over the course of the year, pretty much all the games have had a day or two of interest, and...

Late last night, NeonPlat Raw appeared on the OUYA Dashboard for the very first time.
This is kind of a big deal, in that it's the first time one of my games has officially been released on an actual physical home-console.
True, it's not a "PROPER" console, but .. Hey, it's a box with a controller that plugs into my telly.
And it's got my games on it!

It's been a while since I did an AGameAWeek Gold.
There's not been a lot of stand-out stuff popping up on the old time-machine. Sure there's been a whole pile of games, but nothing that's really been noteworthy, so for the most part I've kind of been ignoring this section of the site.
Today, however, a lovely little game popped up, and I spent a good hour playing the thing! Whoops!!

Today, we take a trip to something eerily similar to something I recently did!
Five years ago I had my first J2ME compatible mobile phone. A Samsung U600 is actually a remarkably nice phone. Five years later, the phone is still in a lovely condition, and is in regular use by my Mum, who now only accidentally hits the incredibly sensitive call button once every week or so!
It's a great little phone, and it's nice and ne...

The Amiga was nearing the end of its life cycle and my local Game store was slowly getting rid of its Amiga stuff. It was sad to find all your favourite games crammed into that little corner of the store where only the geekiest kids would huddle.
Then one day, I spotted a bright blue stripy box.

For the past couple of years, my birthday has been "SpikeDislike Freebie Day".
This year, that's not going to happen
The final version of SpikeDislike2 is REALLY close, but not quite close enough. SpikeDislike will be made free for a few days when SpikeDislike2 is released, in a couple of weeks time.
Meanwhile, though, my first iOS Monkey game has managed to blunder it's way through Apple's review team, and is all nice and active on th...

Last night I finished off the C3ntipong stuff, and got the release edition compiled, tested, double-checked, and uploaded to Apple.
That's it! It's gone.. It's off.
There's no turning back, now!
In about a week's time, C3ntipong may very well pop up on the AppStore, assuming it gets approved!

You're probably wondering, by now, with all this wonderful "Monkey" stuff that I've been banging on about for the past month, where the heck my iOS offerings are.
Well, while it's true that Monkey does indeed make the coding a heck of a lot easier, there's still another matter to attend to.
The dreaded "iTunes Connect" area! ARGH!!!!
You've probably read enough of my rants to know that iDev isn't easy.
There are licenses to deal with. "Provision" codes, Certificates, all manner of s...

The paddle, for starters, is now set much further up the screen. This may result in a slightly harder game, but at least your finger won't be in the way! (or at least, it shouldn't be, unless you have a really really tiny phone, or gigantic finger!)

So, here we go again.
We're up to Year 5, and hopefully we'll get a full year out of it, this year (nnngh).
With Monkey, we get a chance to go back over our previous games, and remake them for a new audience, with iOS, Android and Browser based versions. I expect this will prove to be an exciting year.
Given that we can play at showing off, what games do you think would work best, and adapt well to the new touchy/mouse based gameplay options?
Or, what games could prove to be an obsc...

A simple Breakout game with only one level.
Taking the "Keep it in play" scoring method from Centipong, I've tried to make it so that clearing the first level in breakout doesn't always result in exactly the same damn score every single feckin' time. .. That ALWAYS pissed me off!
So, keep the balls juggling to super-combo your score, and see how many points you can manage from just one wall.
