Why is it always the little random games with a dire lack of content that become the most popular ones?! Lesson Learned : I oughta stop trying so hard, and just knock out the simple little games! I was thinking this whilst doing the Advent collection. Some of those were really playable, and I had a whole lot of fun whilst making them. Hmm.. I forgot to post a "This Week", and a "Suggestion Box", this week, didn't I. One little tweak to my weekly schedule, and the whole thing goes to pot! 54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going. Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up. If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up. Cracking game, this week! What started out as an unknown game, quickly became fantastically playable. A remake of the little WarioWare UFO Spike thing that I made last week, only with more spike things than is probably sane! In the end, the game's turned out quite a lot like a Geometry Wars clone. I wasn't expecting that, but there it is! Two fire buttons, Z for left fire, X for right fire. I wonder how long it'll take for people to realise that, without me having written it anywher...

Over at Socoder I've stopped doing Wednesday Workshop, which has spawned a heck of a lot of sideprojects in it's time.. In fact, in all honesty, Socoder wouldn't exist without it. And.. realistically, this site probably wouldn't either. Still, WW's had it's time, and everyone got bored with it. (note, this is a bit waffley, and tends to jump about from point to point!!) Today I've been working on the editor. It's been a bit of a challenge, trying to think of every little think you might use, and also the keys for all of it, but I think it's coming along quite well. Draw with the mouse to draw, left for the selected tile, right for blank. Blocks and Spikes are in the engine now, as are the default sound effects! Seems a bit of a long time for Blocks and Spikes, but those Blocks are always more complicated than they oughta be! Work is coming along at the regular rate, but I'm now starting to think about the frontend of the game. Not entirely sure what I'll be doing for it. This week a suggestion from Authentic Kaizen, who suggests having a neon styled platform game, with bubble bobble style components. The game has taken a few turns during the week, changing from spike induced terror, a game with a frog like creature, and a whole lot more besides! Blimey, Blockman got big! 5Mb!! FIVE!! That's not like me! But with over 350 great big (for me!) 64x64 pixel sprites, the game was bound to get a little bit bigger than usual.
