Broken GameJolt?
Blog
18th February 2016
DevelopmentsEver since they updated the server to the new version, there's been oodles of bugs and quirks around the GameJolt site. It's getting so bad that I've now started to receive customer support requests via twitter and email! Not a good sign! If you're seeing the following when trying to play HTML5 based games on GameJolt, it isn't my fault!! This week, I've been working on the game Penguin Parade.
This is a semi sequel to the game that appeared in Alpha Collexion, but in reality is more of a Lemmings clone.
Over the course of this week, I've built a sturdy engine, made a few "skills", and got a decent control method to work on gamepads. I've animated a penguin, and got a few GUI elements in place, and .. In general.. I've made a nice solid little game. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_2251.jpeg">&l...

DevelopmentsYesterday was spent neatening up Game #1 in the new Advent Collection. Alarmingly, this has taken a fair number of days, as I'm trying to decide how best to organise all the data. The actual "game" still isn't even finished, yet, and needs collisions and scores and.. well.. pretty much everything, really.. Hmm.. Y7 - D262 - "QUIT!"
Blog
19th September 2015
DevelopmentsAfter finally getting my Forge/NewYA stuff working, I figured I should let TeamOUYA take a look at what I've got so far. The feedback was roughly "Needs an Exit button". Because the Forge doesn't have the big obvious "OUYA BUTTON" that the OUYA controller has, it's much harder to assume the player has a single button to exit the game. As such, I spent a fair amount of time, yesterday, adding a Quit button into my frameworks. I now need to replace old menus with new menus, incorp...Views 18, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsMore complicated work playing with the level generator, yesterday. I still have LOADS to do, and progress has been somewhat slow, but I'm taking my time and trying to account for lots of different things at the same time. There are some elements that need to be missed out, this time around. Ladders and "drop down" things simply won't work on a touchscreen, unless I start making the onscreen dpad do up and down, which honestly, I'd rather not do. One single axis is plenty for mo...Views 18, Upvotes 6

DevelopmentsI didn't do a bloomin' thing, yesterday! I say that.. I'm pretty sure I did SOMETHING, I just can't remember what it was! It can't have been all that important, then... Hmm.. : *shrugs* It seems an entire day has passed me by. I watched a movie, (What We Did On Our Holiday) and listened to a lot of JPop for no real reason. I also watched episode 9 of Dark Matter, which had all manner of interesting things happen. But as for myself. Nope. Nothing to declare I'm afraid. ...Views 13, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsLast night, as I lay in bed, a silence suddenly enveloped the room. It was unlike anything I'd heard in the past couple of weeks. Total, complete and utter silence. I sat up in bed, and looked around the room. Was it a power cut? No.. Then why so little sound? What was missing!? Seems that the new Western Digital NAS drive had finally (after about 2 weeks) finished cataloguing all the files I'd thrown onto it, and was happy with it's collection of thumbnails, enough to s...Views 21, Upvotes 4

UpgradesAnnoyingly, not the upgrade I was looking for. Yesterday, for some bizarre and unexplainable reason, PaintShop Pro 7 suddenly broke. I'm not sure why it did, and I spent a good hour or so trying to figure it out, including a complete delete and reinstall, only to find the same issue. It's weird, and I'd never seen it ask for a "User Directory" before, but no matter what directory I told it to try, it failed, failed and failed again. I bought PSP7 in a Game store, way way way way b...Views 37, Upvotes 8
