Melodical Developments

Last night I re-rendered and uploaded the entire (URL "https://archive.org/details/PrecariousAlBum">Precarious Al Bum to Archive.org) Annoyingly, I forgot to trim the tails on the tracks, so they all end with about a half-a-second of silence. Ooops.. I'll have to poke around in Archive.org's settings and see if I can update the files, but I imagine they're probably going to have to stay like that. Aw well.. Meanwhile, I also created a new track for the Liquid A...

More files.. Found a whole bunch of old videos on one of my old hard drives, so spent literally HOURS, last night, copying them over to the NAS drive. Bah. Windows 10 seems to focus a lot on file transfers, meaning my laptop was practically unusable whilst the transfer was taking place. I certainly didn't have that issue last week when transferring millions of files from NAS to NAS, so it's either Win10 that's doing it, or the fact that I was transferring from a USB-based dock. ...

Hunting for Files

As I poke and prod around my new NAS drive, there are still gaps remaining. My Midi and Mod archive is entirely missing. I never did manage to get them from my old hard drives, and now I'm starting to wonder how on earth I'm going to manage to do it. For the most part, the Mod Archive can be re-grabbed from Aminet, where I originally got most of it. But there were various other sites that have been and gone in that time, which had wonderful tunes. My Mini archive was mostl...

Last night, as I lay in bed, a silence suddenly enveloped the room. It was unlike anything I'd heard in the past couple of weeks. Total, complete and utter silence. I sat up in bed, and looked around the room. Was it a power cut? No.. Then why so little sound? What was missing!? Seems that the new Western Digital NAS drive had finally (after about 2 weeks) finished cataloguing all the files I'd thrown onto it, and was happy with it's collection of thumbnails, enough to s...

Yesterday was one of those Lazy days. Currently my laptop is doing a (URL "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyncToy">SyncToy) backup of my GameDev and WebDev folders, which as you can probably imagine, isn't very good for it's battery! I've had the thing plugged in permanently for about a day and a half, and the damn thing's still slaving away copying hundreds and thousands of files. Eeek! -=-=- (URL "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyncToy">SyncToy) is a completely free too...

In the past couple of nights, I've begun to work on AL's new AL Bum, and have decided that it's going to be titled "Liquid" As per the past few AL Bums, each track will have a different ALphabetical title, from A-Z, but this time with the added benefit of all the tracks being vegetables. Why? Because I'm rubbish at coming up with names for songs, and this is a lazy way to do it! ( width="100%" height="450" scrolling="no" frameborder="...

I awoke this morning to find that FileZilla had crashed. I'm using FileZilla to do a complete file transfer from my old NAS drive to the new one. I'm not sure how far it got, or why it crashed, but crash it did, so I had to restart the whole bloomin' thing. Grrr. It's been set to "Skip if identical" to that at least should speed it up a bit. Two whole smegging days, this has taken!! Once it reaches the end of the transfer, (assuming it does!!) I'm going to have to run one ...

Having done the upload of the update to Apple, I intended for yesterday to be the start of a new set of themes and "the next update" type stuff. But I didn't. In fact, I didn't do a bloomin' thing! A milestone was reached, and my brain said "OK, let me rest now!" so I spent the majority of yesterday actually playing SpikeDislike3 instead of working on it. I also spent a lot of time watching the going-on's at Amazon, since they were having their "Not Black Friday, Honest!" ...

Twitter Rant

This morning, I'm battling with Twitter. A short while ago, Twitter introduced a new "Easy to use!" way to reply to things, which is less messy and leaves more space for your reply. Essentially, the "New Reply" strips away everybody's @names, leaving just a single link back to the previous post. In many ways, this is a nice thing, as when you're in the middle of a conversation with 5 or 6 people, it can typically leave about 3 characters for your reply to fit in!! But there are ...

Awww.. Nuts. Today was supposed to be the great big release day, but annoyingly, one or two annoying issues have annoyingly cropped up. <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/NeonPlat_Extreme_20131126B.png"> First and foremost.. and quite bizarrely.. My Monkey games no longer appear to be working with Gamepads!! At first I thought I'd retweaked NeonPlat until my code no longer worked, but upon searching through my archive, it appears that they're all equally as broken. Either it's my Laptop...

People keep asking about how I manage to code AGameAWeek, and one thing they all eventually pick up on is that I'm currently doing it all with Monkey. (URL "https://monkeycoder.co.nz">Monkey) is a fantastic language which allows for all manner of different targets, and does a great job doing what it does. It isn't perfect, and it's not for everyone, but it suits me down to the ground. As with any development tool, it all comes down to preference, and whether or not you agree with the methodology o...

I'm taking a slight break from my usual AGameAWeek schedule. Over the course of September, I'll be spending extra time building up a super awesome edition of BlastTrax, whilst also taking the time to enjoy GTAV properly! Hurray for games! Meanwhile, I'm digging through my archive of old forgotten gems, and plucking out anything that isn't yet part of my Archive for reasons of terribleness, or general forgetfulness!

Just because I'm taking September off from my regular AGameAWeek schedule, doesn't mean there won't be fun times ahead! I've decided to keep you entertained with a few oddities that have collected on my hard drive for the past decade or so, but have mostly been unpublished due to being "a bit shit", or me having lost their sourcecode. These are games that I've always considered to be part of my archive, but for various reasons I've never actually bothered to add to the thing. Games that I occasionally ...

What's with the track?

BlastTrax was originally devised as a classic Retro-styled GrandPrix-like racing game, with weapons. You would drive through the course, shoot the other drivers, and make your way through to the end. I started work on the game, made a nice retro-styled GrandPrix racetrack, added a few little cars, and then.. .. And that was when (URL "https://www.foppygames.nl/">@FoppyGames) decided to launch his Retro-styled GrandPrix racing game. D'oh! True, min...

Not Good Advice

The following is not advice, and should not be taken as such. People often ask me how I manage to do AGameAWeek. Particularly, how I manage to cram everything into a single week, and then somehow manage to do exactly the same thing every other week, without going crazy. What follows might possibly help you understand a little more of what goes on in the world of AGameAWeek. Or it might just be a whole bunch of rambling waffling text. Not sure!! ...

Note : This app is included with my Monkey Skeleton, so if you've already grabbed that, you needn't bother grabbing it again! If you're trying to write games for all these different systems that Monkey can handle, you've probably wanted to shout at Apple and Google for having created so many stupid sodding icon sizes. It's enough to drive you crazy!! When I first started building my Monkey Framework, I figured it'd be handy to have a program to create all these silly little things. This is that!

Apologies that this post has taken me so long to publish. I actually wrote most of it about 3 months ago, when I first released SpikeDislike2, but it's been sat on my Mac on a Sticky Note, and I kinda forgot all about it! I remembered it, the other day, when I submitted SpikeDislike2-Lite to Apple. What follows is a checklist/guide for compiling your (URL "https://monkeycoder.co.nz">Monkey-coded) game onto iOS.

A remake, this week, of a popular old game, but one which appears to have lost it's powerups along the way. The game plays well enough, but it feels somewhat lacking. Perhaps a little community-driven inspiration might help bulk it back up again?
