I've been asked to chip in on this whole Kickstarter issue. If you follow me on Twitter (@Jayenkai) you'll have noticed my dislike of people spamming my twitter feed with constant requests for cash. It's annoying when you get into the busy periods, have your own cash issues to worry about, but still get bombarded by tens of hundreds of requests a day for things that don't yet exist. As a cash strapped indie dev, I'm in exactly the same situation as most of these guys, with the simple ...

Last week, there was no AGameAWeek. It was the clown's fault.. .. stupid clown.. 54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going. Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up. If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up. Anyhoo, this is a nice big lengthy re...

This week's game didn't quite turn out as well as expected. We'll call this week a fail, I think! Still, you could probably play it once, if you could be bothered, and then delete it in a slight rage that you played something that wasn't all that good! Amiga's Boing Ball bounces around the platform level, and collect...

Not sure what game this is, but I made the Amiga Boing Ball, slapped it into a bricky map, and let it bounce about a bit. *shrugs* I'll keep bashing the keys, and see what comes out the other side! Hurray for random game making!!

You might have noticed a distinct lack of AGameAWeek, this week.. Since I'm getting little or no work done, this week, and.. what with being Xmas and all, I've decided to be lazy, and take a week off. Nothing wrong with that! If you feel you really need something new to play with, nip to yesterday's post, and you can grab the WhoSave thing. That's quite nice.. And you can pretend I posted that today, in time for the Xmas episode in 2 days time. Very festive!! If you'd like t...

This week's Wednesday Workshop #173 was a redoing of an old one. Wednesday Workshop 1 asked us to make games using only 5 objects onscreen. Rather than doing that, I opted to take my original 5 object game, and remake it, turning it into a slightly more interesting game. It's still not anything amazing, but at least it's something! <img src="https://s...

This week's Wednesday Workshop #166 asked for us to create a game that uses lots of Balance. I couldn't come up with anything! So, instead, here's JNKPlat DS 08. It's a complete restart of the engine, coded wholly from start, but using the old sprites so as to keep the good old fashioned style of the last one! (Although, had I redrawn the spr...

If you're following development of Platdude's Retro Collection hoping for a new batch of great games, then you're in luck! TWO great games have been added, TWO rubbishy games have been added, and ONE more game is being worked on right now, as I type this.. Games 1 and 2 are listed in the official page, the Missile Command and Extract games. Nice, simple, retro, fast and fun. Game 3 was also simple and fast. It's the usual "Things pop up, then you tap them. You get a minute, score as mu...

Greenie! Blog

Most of my remakes seem to fall into a single category, in that they all tend to feature my character Greenie. To be honest, I'm not sure why I started doing this. It was never something I planned, it just kind of happened that way! Still, here's a whole page dedicated to that stupid bumbling idiot!

Green's 8-bit Tiny Collection

BlitzCoder, 2005. The 8-bit compo asked us to create games in a 8-bit style. No more than 20 sprites, all of which were 2 colors, and 8x8 pixels in s...

Nothing special this week. If you knew me at the time I did Green's Tiny Collection, then you've no doubt seen this game. I thought I'd post it, though, to remind myself of what a great idea it once was. Keep control of both Platdude and his football. You use the spacebar to jump. Jump and header the football to send it flying over obstacles. If you pick up any items, you can use them by hitting the cursor key in the direction o...
