As I stated a few days ago (didn't I?) I've been working on a port of Poke 5,n over to SmileBASIC. It's been going fairly well, but I had to integrate Touch control to my framework. Eeek!!

Let's create a classic retro effect. Flames! As with all of these tutorials, you can hit F5 at pretty much any step of the process to see how the changes in code have impacted the program.

Wrote up a Flame Effect thing for SmileBASIC, last night. I'd written the effect about a week ago, but only just got to the vague instructions, last night. Busy week! And then I went to post it, looked at the day's postings, and realised that 9 posts in a single day is probably more than enough!!

1. SoCoder newsletter. It's practically done, just a couple of last minute tweaks. 2. ALChoon. I haven't got one, this week. Aaaargh! I tried something, on Monday/Tuesday, but it didn't go anywhere. I've not had the musical mojo, this week. 3. Foldapuz Post.. Why haven't I done this week's Foldapuz post?! 4. Finish off Space Clusters on Petit Switch/SmileBASIC. Oh my.. What a busy Thursday!

I enjoyed my day off, yesterday. Got a few none-gamedev things worked out, and even started playing with paper again. Wondering whether to bring back my old Paper Arcade crafts, expand the DVD Case images to fit properly and include a back, and maybe even some oldskool cardboard boxes and cassette inlays. .. Yep, even when not coding, my mind is fizzling away, trying to keep itself busy and not worry about all the doom and gloom outside.

I've been asked how I achieve my scrolling backgrounds, especially since (as you can probably tell from my games) I'm not using "normal" techniques. So, let's code a quick example, and you can hopefully follow along. WARNING : This is far from being the ideal, or even the "normal" way of drawing backdrops. I am NOT the best tutor for programming. I've been coding far too long without getting rid of my bad bad habits, and have been working towards "many games, quickly" techniques, rat...

Last night I sat and wrote a vague tutorial'ish thing for SmileBASIC. I took the idea of what I did with the Banana Dodging thing, and tried to make an entire game of Pong/Tennis within the space of a single screenshot-able screen of text.

Today will be about finishing off a couple of things. 1. Tomorrow's Petit Switch game. I'm going to post it probably tonight, so that it's ready for people to play tomorrow, when SmileBASIC releases worldwide. Wooohooo!! 2. Tomorrow's SoCoder newsletter. A slight tangent from the norm, so I've had to work extra hard trying to pad it all out. Also, I've not done an ALChoon for this week, so I guess I need to do that, too. I mean, I know I did the Gunfright remix, yesterda...

Sat down to get evening code session going. Extra work on this week's SmileBASIC game. Instead, however, I opened up KORG Gadget and started work on a piece of music. 2 in the morning, I finished. 2 in the blinkin' morning.. And I'm not 100% happy with it. The thing flows well enough, all until the bridge, and then it sounds kinda clunky. I think I need to rework that a little. So, today's plan is to fix that up, and then get the game done. I also need to find a few more thi...
