26th September 2013
September is nearly over, and I've played a good six or seven hours of GTAV. Hmm.. Anyhoo, I've been working away at BlastTrax and have done quite a fair amount of work on the thing. I should be uploading the new edition to Apple in the next couple of days, (I have to faff about updating my MacMini first, though) so watch out for that appearing on your iPhing in the next week or so. After that it's time to get back into the AGameAWeek swing of things, and I'm tempted to do another slightly larger pr...

Hello, I'm Jayenkai, and in 5 days time, I'll be adding the 300th game into my Archive. 300 games that I've single handedly created over the course of the past decade. Today, I received the following email. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/anemail.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/anemail-300x30.png" alt="" title="anemail" width="300" height="30" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-3087" /> "N...

As we head into July, I've decided to dig my heels in, and aim for another bigger project. Much like April's "Stringy Things" month, this will probably take over the usual AGameAWeek schedule, resulting in a smaller number of releases over the course of the month. .. hopefully, it doesn't run into a dead end, like Stringy Things did! For this project, I'll be using TWO languages. Monkey will be the main language, and DevKitPro/PALib will be the ported languages, for DS Homebrew. 'cor! The target...

Googling for yourself rarely comes up with anything quite as fun as this! It seems that YouTuber "Chaoticlaw" (and/or "YetAnotherLaw") has decided to start a series of "Let's Play" videos aimed right at me, and my games!! (URL "https://bit.ly/ZT4hCZ">Play JNK : Playlist) Each week, Chaoticlaw plucks a random game from my archive, and gives it a play! He's also concurrently playing through Frogatto, Metroid Fusion and FTL. Assuming he only picks the cream of the crop, I'd say he could probably ...

In a change to our regularly scheduled April-Project, I've decided to stop pulling my hair out, and instead do something different. Grrr.. What we're left with, however, is a nice happy little game for up to four players, so that's nice.

A Brief'ish History of Sheep Goes Left

After SpikeDislike was released, one of the AppStore reviewers complained that there's no way to save your progress, and that the infinitely continuing level was an issue because there are no checkpoints, and no ending. .. Well, yeah...

AGameAWeek Crap springs to mind.. Maybe another day. I have a big proper blog post to write, too, and no time to waste!! I'm lazy like that! Luckily, a new iOS App has come along to save me the trouble. The wonderful "TimeHop" is available (for free), and allows you to upload your Twitter Archive, as well as include your Facebook timeline.. What it then does is scan the archives for things that have happened on this day,...

If you're a regular AGameAWeek follower, you'll probably be all too aware of the "It doesn't always work" rule. I'm at odds over this one. The first possible launch date is Feb 23rd. Feb 23rd is my birthday, and for the last two years, has also been SpikeDislike=FREE Day on iOS. It'd be nice to have SpikeDislike2 Day on the same day, but then I'd also need to get it onto the AppStore by that date, and ... that's a wee bit tricky! It'd mean I'd have to get the iOS App submitted by around about this time next week, and .. yikes. that's cutting it a bit close, especially considering I...

Either it works, or there's whinges! We'll have to wait and see.

A lot of elements are currently coming together, and things are getting a little more chaotic than I'd like them to be around Xmas time. If the past 2 years of Xmas themed chaos (12 games of Xmas, Advent Collection) have taught me one thing, it's not to EVER plan anything around Xmas! Presents, family visits and the general filling of my face with Xmas cake, will usually get in the way of the coding time, and as such I decided not to push myself into anything moronic this year. I apologise if you're deep...

You know what's annoying? When you've been sitting, typing away for about an hour, then stop to make a brew, and suddenly realise how bloody cold it is! Somebody needs to invent some sort of keyboard with heated keys. That'd be great! .. A mouse would be cheaper, but I then only my right hand would be toasty warm. .. I'm not sure I want to go for the "Coding Gloves" thing!

ugh.. I need to make a calendar for the iOS edition. The Win/Lin/Mac (WiLMa) edition is also a bit screwy, so we'll add "New Calendar" to the 2nd releases todo list. Might as well see if I can code 2 things at once, then, and rework the calendars at the same time.

Today's long, long, long day of development was 100% iOS related. Having put it off entirely yesterday, I figured I'd better port that level builder doohickey. I opened TextEdit on the Mac, copied the level builder function from BlitzMax, and set about converting it, line by line, to something that XCode would compile for iOS. 800 lines of code, an estimate of "should only take a few hours, surely!" and then a completely exhausted Jay who just about managed to get the thing working 8 hours late...

I wasn't aiming to do the Final Beta until about Wed/Thursday this week. Today, the Final Beta went out. A few days early, but there was nothing more I could come up with. The game is done. There's been a few tweaks, today, to sort out a couple of beta-player's issues, and I've been fiddling with some of those slightly annoying things that I never got around to fixing. .. but yeah, it's done.

Saturday's my "At work for a while" day, so I usually get a lot less codey time done, but I still managed quite a few bits and pieces in the morning. A couple of new baddies, and a teensy bit of AI are in there, as is something which may or may not be confusing, depending on whether you remember the 7 year old oddity or not. Suffice to say, the bananas do definitely appear to be coming from below the arrow. .. not sure what that's all about.. ---
