Right, today I need to figure out how to do the blanks.
I'll probably need to use an extra chunk of array to draw them separate from the rest of the board. Draw plain blanks, then plop letters on top. I might even make them Font-based, rather than Tile-based.

Alan asks..

What's the general outline of your current approach?
The general method is as such.
1. The AI randomly picks a spot on the board, and scans to check that a word will fit in the space provided. It looks for a space that will fit about 3 or 4 letters and will connect to at least one other tile on the board.

Massive enhancements, tonight, as the Crossword Game's brain gets a little shove in the right direction.

The AI is now at least managing to play without murdering my laptop!
A quick rewrite of the WordList, and a little bit of learning a bit more of Javascript's abilities, and I've now got things streamlined a little more.
The next will be to add a bit more intelligence to the AI.
As you can see in the screenshot above, all four AI players seem to be fairly balanced, but aren't exactly scoring massively. That'll be the next task, now that things aren't insanely slow and, ...

You know when you spend hours working on something, then look back at what you've done, and go "What on earth did I actually do?"
.. I did that, yesterday!

Board Layouts.. Not easy!

But the main ones are in, now. Regular Scrabble, Super Scrabble, Words With Friends, and there's also the option for random layouts, so that's nice!!
More to come..

As I sit and play the new "Party Mode" (Is that really the name for this?!) I'm starting to realise that there are still huge missing features in the ... feature!

@RSKGames

Yesterday I had submitted 2 comments on the blog with link to 2 pictures I had uploaded in socoder.
Hmm.. Well, I suppose that's probably my over-reactive Spam control in action, which perma-deletes anything that looks even slightly dodgy. (eg, URLs and things like that) I imagine that all the _'s and brackets in the text also probably added to the trigger-count, which would've ended up blocking your comment from even getting to the comment bin.
Sincere apologies ...

Today's new addition to the ShoeBox is a simple anagram game.
Try to score as many points as you can from the rack of tiles that you have.
If you can't find a word, you can use the Swap button, but each one will use up one of your moves. (You have a limit of 3 swaps when playing timed mode)
As with Strings mode, you'll need to try to beat your previous highscore to count the game as a "Win"
You can Play Shoebox here, where you'll find Score Rack in the Word Games me...

I'm now fairly happy with the way the generic board is scrolling and zooming on my iPhings, but the desktop version needs a lot more work.

First up, I've decided to just let "Trails" be "Trails", and stop worrying about what the actual game might possibly have really been.

Managed to get a little bit of coding done, today.
I've added a fairly swift anagram-finder to the word engine of Shoebox. The script can more or less search anagrams for about two sets of letters each second, so should be fairly useable once I start making a "generic unbranded crossword style word game" game.
The next part of that particular puzzle is trying to decide on scores for tiles.
Do I stick with "Stringy Things" tile scores, which they currently are in the game, or do I swit...

Added Cross Target
Spent ages trying to find the best way to represent a Scrabble-Style board using only black ink! I should probably redo bits of it with grey, I think.. Hmm..
Anyway, it's a simple enough concept. You have a rack of tiles, and a specific target to hit. Try to score exactly that many points.

Last night I rejigged a lot of the Scrabble Scoreboard, and especially focused on the GUI a little. That Undo button still doesn't quite work, with it being tucked right at the top of the screen, but otherwise the new GUI looks a little more usable.

Had a nice long game of Super Scrabble against Mum, today, and the games last much longer, as expected!
Took about 2 hours, or thereabout, before one of us had won*.

It's Mother's Day, here in the UK, so today will be spent mostly not doing my normal thing of disappearing with code all day!
Today will, instead, be spent playing Scrabble.. Which I've conveniently gone and made a nice new App for playing with!
Incidentally, I also bought Mum the Super edition of Scrabble, which has twice as many letter tiles, and oodles more space to play within.
Yup, today's all planned out!

This week's release isn't really a game. It's more of a Tool, or a Game-Companion!

This is coming along rather well.
The scores are now all totting up, and everything's working to a moderately decent standard.
The game/tool's not very good at noticing gaps in word placements, so you could put down "Happy Cat" and it wouldn't notice the space.
That needs fixed.
