@Madgarden's wonderful little retro shooter has finally been released to iOS, this week, so that's getting the Weekend Retreat treatment!
It makes quite a change from AGameAWeek's fast pacing and insane difficulty levels, as you leisurely float from side to side, gently blasting away at the bad guys!

This week's game is a lot like last week's game, only slightly more colourful, and with baddies that come at you!!
Apologies that I wasn't more imaginative, this week!!

Each day, AGameAWeek Gold takes a look through the archive, to dig up any games that I've previously released on this day in history.
Sometimes they're fantastic.
Other times they're garbage.
Let's have a look at today's, shall we!?

Every day, AGameAWeek Gold takes a peek through the inexplicably large collection of releases, and digs out any old games that I've previously released on this day in history.
Occasionally there aren't any. I'm not fast enough to have that many!
But other times, there's more than one!
How odd!

Hardly the worlds most imaginative title for this week's game, and mostly a cop-out graphics wise, but I was trying out a gameplay style, so that's where most of the focus went.
Was it a success?
.. You decide!!

Sad face.
I'm supposed to be adding a new word game, every week, but this week's IGN Sillyness resulted in me spending literally hours replying to a whole bunch of emails, and trying to keep tabs on everything as it all went a wee bit crazy.
To be fair, I could've just spent ten minutes replying to those, but I do like to waffle in my email replies!!
As a result, I didn't actually get around to much...

General rule in life : Don't Poke the Bear.
Other similar expressions include tidbits such as "That's just the way it is", and references to Burning Bridges..
Over the past few days, I've heard pretty much every single one of these, and a whole host more.
About a week ago, IGN posted a trailer for SpikeDislike2.

It's a fun, adventurous, and seemingly random trip through the Jayenkai Archives.
Join us, as we test really old games to see if they still run on our modern systems!

Sometimes I'll have an idea early on in the week. I'll take my time, and build up a wonderful game, spending the full week making it nice and presentable.
Other times, it'll be a rush job, and I'll instead make the entire game over the space of a weekend.
.. or less!

A good old fashioned old-skool platforming game, harking back to the good old days of Manic Miner and that sort of thing.
This week is VERY Manic Miner esque.
Collect the items to open the door, dodge the baddies, jump around, die a lot, get to the exit, sorted!!

The Amiga was nearing the end of its life cycle and my local Game store was slowly getting rid of its Amiga stuff. It was sad to find all your favourite games crammed into that little corner of the store where only the geekiest kids would huddle.
Then one day, I spotted a bright blue stripy box.

Happy Blockman Day!
It's been 4 years since the last Blockman Gets game was released, so it's about time we had another!
Blockman Gets Hungry strips out the boulders, takes out the power-pellets, and instead uses fruit for various functions.
There's four different fruit to eat.

Next week's AGameAWeek is already in the works. Yet another remake, this time of a game that doesn't quite appear to run as well as it used to.
The Heist was coded in August 2008, and does still run on modern PCs. The thing is, though, it runs at about 30fps on most of my current systems.
I'm not really sure why this is, and have tried a couple of things to get it up to speed, but nothing seems to be doing th...

You know what I hate?
Icons.
You might've noticed that very few of my games include icons.
Not only do I hate having to draw icons, I also hate having to create 70,000 bazillion different sizes for every sodding size that might be needed.

Hello all.
If you're a regular reader, prepare to be marginally disappointed.
Today's release is NOT for you
Today I'm releasing a private beta edition of SpikeDislike2 (currently for Windows or Android) to people who would like to blog about it, and help publicise it's existence.

OK, let's get some stress testing going, shall we?
This test took ABSOLUTELY AGES to get working, because my Mac and iPod suddenly decided they were no longer friends, and XCode was playing up like a moron.
AN HOUR!!
For two little bloody tests.

I'm a game developer, who usually spends about 16-or-more hours, per day, sat in front of a computer screen. I'm 32 years old.
You would probably imagine that, given both those facts, I've been through a fair number of laptops, over the years.
The truth is, I've never owned a laptop!

Saturday's my "At work for a while" day, so I usually get a lot less codey time done, but I still managed quite a few bits and pieces in the morning.
A couple of new baddies, and a teensy bit of AI are in there, as is something which may or may not be confusing, depending on whether you remember the 7 year old oddity or not.
Suffice to say, the bananas do definitely appear to be coming from below the arrow.
.. not sure what that's all about..

One of the hardest things about adding baddies to this game is, surprisingly for me, not actually drawing things!
With NeonPlat I've created a weird skewed world, where nothing looks exactly as it should.
This gives me a little artistic license with my artwork. .. or rather, I can be shit, and nobody'll notice!
If something looks a little too odd, I simply make it look odder in the animation, and it somehow cobbles together nicely.

Too tired..
Instead, I've been working on Sheep Goes Left DS, which is proving 17,000,000,000% more popular than it's iOS rival.
Quite why, I don't know, but the fact that it's being mentioned quite a bit is a good sign.

During this little AGameADay mini marathon thing I've been waking up, coding a game, then having my breakfast.
Each game's taking about an hour, occasionally 2.
They're quickies.
I also planned not to do Wednesday games.

AL's been away for a while. I think all the AGameADay stuff might've taken it's toll on him for a bit, there.
Today, though, he unexpectedly managed to knock out a fairly decent choon.
I like today's tune. Nice and.. um.. nice

I've always found Flash slightly more complicated than it needs to be.
For a few years I attempted to learn various versions of the official Flash demoes, and SoThink's 900% cheaper clone. They were ok, but they weren't designed for coders. Flash was an artist's tool, with tweening and vector graphics and all that other none-codery stuff.

AGameAWeek teaches us one thing.
Some games you win, some games you lose.
When you lose, there's not a lot you can do.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and move on.
