For the past few months, I've been back and forthing on a way to get this to look half-assed on the 3DS.

The main issue is with the Starfield, vs the 3DS's LED "haze" (Or maybe that's because I'm using a Original 3DS as my Homebrew unit!?)

The slow-to-react LED is causing really horrible "clarity" issues.

When you moved, the stars turned to a dark grey whilst the screen tries to catch up. If you stopped, and it has time to draw them fully, they become hard and white.

The constant difference in clarity, jumping between white and grey as you move/stop, was causing MASSIVE issues whilst I was trying to play it.

I've tried a number of solutions, but this one seems to be working well enough.
The stars are now quite chunky, so when in motion they draw across about 2 or 3 pixels, thus leaving less of a fuzz behind them.
They're then overlayed with a dark pattern which helps to reduce the fuzz a little further.

I think I'm finally happy with the way it's looking, and have decided to go ahead and create "SpikeDislike Classic".

Sod that Chess thing!!

I've just spent the past couple of hours trying to fix a really stupid bug in the game logic.
All of a sudden, enemy rooks could leap over your pieces.
I looked into the code, and ... Yeah, I can see how that's happening.

The issue being, of course, that to fix it I'd need to rewrite a significant chunk of the movement code, and probably break a whole bunch of other things along the way.

I don't often give up on a project due to complexities like this.
Usually if I DO give up, its because the game has no real substance, but I do believe this could be a good game, if my head wasn't in such a weird space, right now.

I'm all puzzled out, and I think my head needs a simpler project to work on, until it's feeling less funky than it currently does.

2 weeks in ... Project scrapped.
Sorry, everyone.

All the focus for this game has been on its balancing, and I've barely touched the graphical style at all.

Today's tweaks have finally made the Chess game a bit more lively.

A bit more fiddling and, hopefully, I should be able to get the difficulty back to something fairly decent.
Right now it's still a little bland, and games can carry on for far too long without much of a threat, so a little more "look ahead" and things should be golden!

This is a test.

I'm not sure how compatible the new RSS feed is going to be, but if you'd like to try it out in your RSS Reader of Choice, then the url is rss.xml, which is a fairly obvious choice for rss feed urls, I think.

The link has been added down at the very bottom right of the site, and is also tagged in the header, near all those bloomin' icons!

Let me know how it goes.

RSS Readers

InoReader seems the nicest of the webbased readers that I've found in my travels.
Simple enough to register using your Google account, and using the "Card View" gives a lovely enough presentation.

There's also Feedly.com which seems ok, but doesn't appear to be updating the feed after its initial read!!

For a Chrome Extension (and a few other uses) the minimal Feeder.co seems nice and fast, and not too overwhelming. There's a price tag if you want to avoid Adverts, though.. So.. I'm not sure how that works when running as a browser extension. hmmm...

Feel free to

Got an email, this morning, from someone who was slightly perturbed by the fact that my RSS hasn't updated since 8/26/2017.

When I switched from using Wordpress to my own blog script, one of the lost features was RSS. Mostly because I was too lazy to code a feed, but also because I wasn't sure that anyone actually still used RSS.

This morning's email suggests that, somewhere in the world, at least one person still reads their RSS feeds once every couple of years.

So, today I'll probably look into ways to generate a feed, though it would probably be far from the world's most ideal RSS feed.. But something's better than nothing, right?!.
