Different Plan
Blog
2nd May 2020
Yesterday's attempt at making a moving-blocks sort of game didn't really end up with any great results.
Today, then, I'll probably do something spacey. I'm thinking Space Popcorn might need a revisit, with a bit of the collection-gameplay from Popcorn Bucket. Some kind of mashup between the two.

A Browsercade Plan
Blog
1st May 2020
OK, time for another game, then!
Gotta keep coding!!
I still have the urge to do something with matching blocks, but more Platformer'y.
I'm not sure what game my head wants to do with that concept, but trying to make it work with a random generator will probably be the hardest part.
I've never quite managed to do block-puzzles with a generator, which is ironic given the multitude of puzzle generators I've been making for Foldapuz.
Hmm..
I wonder if I'll manage that, this week?

If you'd like an obscure selection of (mostly Japanese, but not all) music, then I've started putting together monthly playlists of the oddities that I find.
Not necessarily music from the month, but music that I've found during the month..
Let me know if you love/hate the collection!

OK, the swinging Spike thing has become a guy with a grappling hook, and it's quite fun to swing about the arena, but currently there's little or no purpose for doing so.
That'll be today's task. .. since the game's due for release, today!
Baddies, pickups, the usual suspects.
Let's see where this one goes.
Also, I could really do with adding some kind of mp4 clip uploader to the site, instead of having to say..
Here's a Twitter link for the clip!

I enjoyed my day off, yesterday. Got a few none-gamedev things worked out, and even started playing with paper again.
Wondering whether to bring back my old Paper Arcade crafts, expand the DVD Case images to fit properly and include a back, and maybe even some oldskool cardboard boxes and cassette inlays.
.. Yep, even when not coding, my mind is fizzling away, trying to keep itself busy and not worry about all the doom and gloom outside.

A Day Off?

Might take a day off, today.
I finished off this week's Foldapuz game late last night, bringing the total number of games done this year up to a nice round 50.

1. Finish off this week's Shoebox game.
It's a nice little two player game, placing tiles and matching up symbols.
I think it's good. .. It feels like it should be, but, who knows.
Strategy FTW!

I've been asked how I achieve my scrolling backgrounds, especially since (as you can probably tell from my games) I'm not using "normal" techniques.
So, let's code a quick example, and you can hopefully follow along.
WARNING : This is far from being the ideal, or even the "normal" way of drawing backdrops.
I am NOT the best tutor for programming. I've been coding far too long without getting rid of my bad bad habits, and have been working towards "many games, quickly" techniques, rat...

Last night I sat and wrote a vague tutorial'ish thing for SmileBASIC.
I took the idea of what I did with the Banana Dodging thing, and tried to make an entire game of Pong/Tennis within the space of a single screenshot-able screen of text.

22nd April 2020
Today will be about finishing off a couple of things.
1. Tomorrow's Petit Switch game. I'm going to post it probably tonight, so that it's ready for people to play tomorrow, when SmileBASIC releases worldwide.
Wooohooo!!
2. Tomorrow's SoCoder newsletter. A slight tangent from the norm, so I've had to work extra hard trying to pad it all out.
Also, I've not done an ALChoon for this week, so I guess I need to do that, too.
I mean, I know I did the Gunfright remix, yesterda...

Musical Day..

21st April 2020
Sat down to get evening code session going.
Extra work on this week's SmileBASIC game.
Instead, however, I opened up KORG Gadget and started work on a piece of music.
2 in the morning, I finished.
2 in the blinkin' morning..
And I'm not 100% happy with it. The thing flows well enough, all until the bridge, and then it sounds kinda clunky.
I think I need to rework that a little.
So, today's plan is to fix that up, and then get the game done.
I also need to find a few more thi...
