Friday 25th of September 2009 12:15:21 AM Name : Thunderskull 4024 Idea : Sokoban-like game with hex-based grid. OK, first off, not really sure what all the loving of Hexagons is about, but the word Hex is in the suggestion bag about 20-odd times! People appear to really like Hexagons! The Hexagonal Maze is in the archive. It's a half assed game, but I like it. Sokoban kinda needs specific controls, since you have to be able to move ...

Having done the DS and Windows editions of JNKSokoban and since the shooty game wasn't really happening, I figured, what the hey, might as well do a phone Sokoban, too. (hmm.. I never did release the DS one, did I!?) So, here's the phone one..

Trying to add puzzle elements into a shoot-em-up never seems to work out as well as the idea in your head. I should know that by now! And yet, this week, that's what I tried to do.

First things first, here's this week's AGameAWeek game. I've done a few dozen "Get the Greens" before, so I figured I'd keep this one short. Simply put, get the greens, and avoid the holes. No enemy this time, just you and the floor, so if you're nice and gentle you could probably get quite far through and score a decent score. As it stands, my highscore is currently 15 points. .. So, not a super-high-scoring game, but definitely one you could beat me at! Since I've made...

Not much this week, or at least, not as good as Microbes anyway! I decided to redo Raining Bombs, from a few weeks ago. The last one was for my Cookie phone, (which has since become a Viewty phone) and this one's for Windows. It looks more dramatic than it is! Two turrets that shoot each other over and over again. If you blast your enemy beneath the bottom of the screen, you win a point, and then it all starts all over again. No intro, no music, not even a "BANG!", more a subtle silent...

Yesterday turned out rather well. I actually coded a complete game, from start to finish, logo, audio, everything, yesterday. It's pretty good, and will be our AGameAWeek come Tuesday. (Because, if I posted it today, there'd be nothing to post on Tuesday!!) Look forward to more shootyshooty stuff!

H~S~R's coming along, nice and slowly. As I add each new little thing, I spend about an hour playing with the lovely swooshy swirlyness of it. Mmmm.. The whole Texture-Buffer-Blurry thing has really added some niceness to the game. And, just for good measure, you can turn off the texture section. So, if the game's not quite up to speed, turn off the blur, and the game carries on without it. Every element in the game has 2 layers. The Sprite, and the line. Lines are left in the background...

It's been 30 weeks since I last tackled Horizontal Shooter. The last time, I used BlitzMax. It was wonderful, and gave me all manner of nice swirly effects for those lovely background lines. Mmm.. Until it came to running it on other systems, whereby a huge amount of incompatibilities arose, and the game kinda fell on it's arse and died. Oh dear. 30 weeks on, let's give it another go!

Yesterday was spent getting Sokoban to work in BlitzBasic for Windows. It ended up reasonably well, but there's a few things that should be tweaked, including one persons complaint that bundling all 600+ levels into a single pack kinda kills the fun of it.. A dull trek through a long list of simple levels before you even touch on the slightly more difficult levels, does not a fun game make. So, I'll split them back up into their seperate packs, and give folk a nice selectable menu system.

Platdude Retro Collection 2
24th February 2009
A nice and simple game, this week. Since I'm trying to decide what style Platdude Retro Collection 2 should have, I decided to try out a style in Blitz first, and see how it looks. You might notice it's still a little Atari 2600. .. I'm not sure if I'll stick with that. But I do like the nice big chunky sprites, and the whole thing feels much more retro than PRC did, originally.. So.. I dunno...

I've taken onboard a few of AuthenticKaizen's suggestions, and there's now a slightly better edition of Disasteroids available. Same download link, right here The game's pretty much the same as it was on Tuesday, except with a few added powerups to play around with. There's also (I forgot to mention this anywhere, but it's in there!!) a "Chill" mode. Hit Tab to start the game, and you play without those little white cr...

This week's Wednesday Workshop #186 was to create a nice Asteroids game. As I started creating it, I was planning a nice Horizontal Shooter-esque game, with powerups and all kinds of crazyness. But I ran out of steam midway. A shame.. BUT. It's still a nice swooshy game, with fancy particles, and nice explosions. It's mouse controlled, l...
