News, today, of a new Sitcom under development at HBO. HBO are converting Indie Game The Movie into a sitcom! A sitcom based on a bunch of videogame developers? How on earth would THAT work!?!

It's been over a year since the Platdude Retro Advent Collection had a bizarre game with a ball and some spikes in it, and as much as I've attempted to get on with other games, that one little game keeps on getting dragged back out again! Last week, SpikeDislike won an IndieVisibility award, for being the best game to have with you on the toilet! This week, the guy who nominated it for that award has written a great big sprawling mass of text, all about SpikeDislike! (Link no longer available) ...

Yesterday was the #Indievisibility awards ceremony, which involved a bunch of indie guys, a pub, a brawl and a number of teabags. Awards were given for all manner of things.. Different genres, games with certain features and other seemingly random reasons. You can scan through a list of all the Awards here, and read all about the joys of the fight! Awesome!

One man, 365 games Luckily, he decided against that, and has now shifted gears to a much more manageable 52 games a year, or AGameAWeek if you will. As I always say, I'll wish you all the best on your quest. It's a toughy. You have a life, and unlike me, you probably also have one of those "Social Life" thingies! These tend to get in the way. As does enjoying yourself.

I've always found Flash slightly more complicated than it needs to be. For a few years I attempted to learn various versions of the official Flash demoes, and SoThink's 900% cheaper clone. They were ok, but they weren't designed for coders. Flash was an artist's tool, with tweening and vector graphics and all that other none-codery stuff.

Yesterday, Rob from RetroRemakes asked if he could do a spritesheet for Spike Dislike. After a lot of back and forth, I decided to write a how-to, so any future requests could go a little bit smoother! Here's some info on how to make 'em, alongside a bunch of all-important rules.

The year is new, but the logo's old. Sod it. I love this logo! I should be doing a year-long roundup thing, but I've not had much time, what with the whole Advent and stuff. No matter, there's been some good, and plenty of bad, and that's what AGameAWeek's all about!

Right now, we'll call this version 0.5. The tool is at a working version, and most of the bugs are ironed out. I'll update it as the weeks go by, and hopefully we'll have something Most Excellent by the end. Sliders, menus, buttons, etc. Fiddle about, you might figure it out! There's a bunch of presets on the left. Click one, and a sprite appears bottom right. If you click "New" the spr...

As I've already mentioned, the MiniRPG's on hold whilst I build the sprite maker doohickey. The doohickey's coming along nicely, and make quite a large leap today, but I'm still fiddling about trying to get it to feel "Just Right" The thing is, although my old sprite maker seemed to come up with nice blobs, the new one appears to be much more random. Either they're preset shapes, or they're crazily splodged messes. <a href="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/Jays_Retro_Sprite_Tool_...

I'm in too deep. I can't stop! And yet I also didn't plan ahead far enough, and will be spending most of this morning removing a bunch of stuff, and redoing it all. Oops, forgot to post this, yesterday! No matter. After last week's retro styled "random" game, I decided to go for something similarly retro, but much less random. I've drawn some supercheap gameboy style sprites, and have been building a batch of quick and easy jumpy platform levels. I've done 11 levels so far, and am going to go the "Start from level 1, see how far you can get" route, so theres no checkpoints or anything. Just start, and hope you don't die.. 9 lives seems adequate, so far, but I m...

Time to pick a new Jingle. I'm thinking that Year 3 should be marked, slightly, by tweaking the intro jingle a little, so I've gathered together a handful, and popped them all here.

54 games. Last year I only managed about 30-odd, so I think that's pretty good going. Sure, it might not have truely actually been A Game "Per" Week, but I did at least keep the ratio up. If I hadn't taken the time out to build the framework, I probably would've actually achieved the target a little better The stats show I was pretty much on top of things up until that point, but then things got slower and slower until my buffer zone was all dried up. Anyhoo, this is a nice big lengthy re...

I made this about 4 or 5 days ago, and have had it as my desktop on about 3 different systems. Oooh, it's luvly! (Even if I do say so myself) There's a game-logic-error in the thing, but other than that it's a nice looking desktop. It's a massive 3200x3200 pixels, but should scale nicely to your resolution... If not, feel free ...
