Cracking game, this week! What started out as an unknown game, quickly became fantastically playable. A remake of the little WarioWare UFO Spike thing that I made last week, only with more spike things than is probably sane! In the end, the game's turned out quite a lot like a Geometry Wars clone. I wasn't expecting that, but there it is! Two fire buttons, Z for left fire, X for right fire. I wonder how long it'll take for people to realise that, without me having written it anywher...

Release
4th May 2010
This is probably going to be the last release There's a couple of new tiles to play with, and 2 extra packs. One (with 12 levels) from me, and one (with 2 and a bit) from StudioFortress. (If you'd like to attempt the third one of those, load it in the editor.. I couldn't get past the flame-pit!) I have a couple of extra tile ideas jotted down, but they don't feel like they'd add anything to the game, so I haven't bothered to add them ...

On Sunday we had a new bathroom fitted, during which time we discovered an old leak which had previously gone unnoticed. In what can only be described as "Water Timing" the leak decided to smash through part of our kitchen. dangit. So, this week, we've been busy doing house destruction, removing part of the ceiling, and preparing to get a whole new one. Although I've not really been doing too much towards it, the ceiling coming down isn't the big job, that's coming soon when we put the new one up.. It ...

Folk who currently have the editor should be aware that there's a slight bug with the far right, and lower sides of the levels! Try not to go too far!! Thanks! I probably mis-counted something, somewhere, and it's all gone a bit pants! Otherwise everything should, hopefully, be working just fine. Although I'm a little disappointed that I didn't test that. It popped into my mind a couple of days ago, but I was too busy trying to get the encoding to work that it then popped right back ...

Awww This week I've been ill, and between website tweaks, and lying in bed half-dead, I've not really had time to get anything done. This morning, I managed to wake up, and was bright and alert. I figured it was probably a good chance to get something done, so I grabbed the half-assed sprites, popped them into an engine, and got them running in a right facing direction. Adding random pipes, and the ability to jump over them, I'd made a 1980's style Waggler Hur...

Mailbag! Blog
18th March 2010
August 26th 2009 That's the last time I did a Mailbag post! Blinkin' eck! Over the past 6/7 months, I've occasionally dipped into the mailbag and plucked out little snippets, but I figured it was about time I did a proper one. A few of these have already been posted, but there's a whole batch of new ideas here. Let's go!!! (There's a lot!!)

On Tuesday I'll be posting the last of my planned Mar10 games, and it's going to be a wild ride to see what oddities appear for the next couple of weeks. After that I've got the whole JNKPlat10 to do, but that'll probably be more of a background thing. In the meantime, I'd like your game ideas, and what better place to pop them, than into our ever-present Suggestion Box, over on the right. I'll peek inside the spam filled mass of suggestions once I've posted this game, and try to dig out any recent s...

Update This has all been checked, rechecked, and triple checked. It appears to have been nothing more than a coincidence. .. That tried to steal my password.. And then another coincidence that caused me to reset my iPod for the first time since Xmas. Purely coincidentally mind. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with Angry Birds. I'm still not sure about Crystal, but Angry Birds is quite safe. Original Post Last night, I downloaded the updated edition of Angry Bi...

Or rather, rushing to implement the ideas suggested!! As well as finally adding a "Enter Your Name" screen! There's still a half-a-dozen little niceties that I'd like to add, before release. So, although this game WILL DEFINITELY be released tomorrow, it'll probably end up being Tomorrow morning + whenever I wake up + a few hours after that! For example, it'd be nice to have more than one difficulty setting!! But to do that, I need to add that frontscreen menu thingy! whoops!!! ...

Having now sat up for more than 10 minutes, I figure I'd best get coding, but I can't really finish off Centipong in less than a day.. What to do? Well, assuming I now have all week to complete Centipong, I might as well spend today doing something a little different. One of my all time favourite (of my own!) games is Stringy Things. I know that a hell of a lot of folk don't like Word games as much as I do, but.. dangit, I love the things! I've always planned to add a huge wordlist into the BlitzMax ...

Oooh, new engine this week, are you all looking forward to it?! First Linux release, too! Blimey! As the days drive on, I'm leaving myself with less time to actually code a game, here, but things are coming along nicely. Joystick controls are in, little pop up text things are happening, debug file's being created, everything seems to be working! It's usually at this point that things implode!!! Assuming that doesn't happen, I'll be coming up with some sort of quicky game, by ...

2010 Framework
11th January 2010
Blimey!! Step 1. (3/4 hours) After about 3 or 4 hours spent prodding Ubuntu to actually get it to install properly, I finally managed to get it up and running by downloading a different Ubuntu, and installing it onto a thumbstick instead.. Step 2. (10 seconds) I downloaded BlitzMax and followed <a href="https://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=84385">these</a> instructions. Basically I just copy+pasted that topmost line of code into the Terminal, got that to update things,...

<a href="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/argh.png"><img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/argh_thumb.png" style="float:right"></a> Because there may or may not have been resulting copyright issues, I've left this post on the backburner until the magazine went off the shop shelves. Usually I'd happily scan in a bit of a page if my games are mentioned, but this time it's a whole entire page, and that's a completely different kettle of fish. (Although, to be fair, I've wr...

Reframing Blog
2nd December 2009
It seems my decision has now been made. I'm going to reacquaint myself with BlitzMax, and give things another try. But first I need to build up a nice new Jayenkai Framework. There's a fair number of things that I want to put into place before we begin, so let's get cracking on the list. 1. Multiplayer : Not online...! Authentic Kaizen suggested I add multiplayer co-op to NeonPlat, and I kind of agreed, but the way the old framework is set up just didn't support t...

This week, I've decided to try something a wee bit different. If you're a fan of previous AGameAWeek games, you'll notice that I'm more than a little crap at designing levels. It's a slight issue, but one that I've never bothered to care about. Usually, any games that NEED levels will include a built in level editor. And folk who like the games will spend minutes trying to make one, and that'll be half the fun. The trouble with this theory, of course, is that half the ti...

A nice and simple game, this week, inspired by this week's Wednesday Workshop (#224) Board Game challenge. This week, due to popular demand, Blockman's Getting More. As you may have read, I attempted a new art style (fweeDee!!) last week, which really didn't work out at all. So, this week I'm aiming for the Pseudo popped-out-a-bit art style, and all seems happy in the world of Blockman. <img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/blockmangetsmoreb.png">

Prepare for disappointment! This week's been a bit of a disaster, really. I started with Arcade Slots, and actually managed to get quite far into it, but eventually realised there wasn't anything new to add to the mix. So that got scrapped. After that came a brand new Blockman graphic style, which was far too angled, and resulted in the maze being completely obscured. No good! So, after those two, you'd think I'd suddenly come up gold. Third time lucky, right? Nope. <a hr...

Same game, different system. I started working on the Munky Portal thing this week, but it didn't really happen. A shame. The Hexagonal Maze is in the archive. It's a half assed game, but I like it. Sokoban kinda needs specific controls, since you have to be able to move ...
