This week, I've been working on the game Penguin Parade.
This is a semi sequel to the game that appeared in Alpha Collexion, but in reality is more of a Lemmings clone.
Over the course of this week, I've built a sturdy engine, made a few "skills", and got a decent control method to work on gamepads. I've animated a penguin, and got a few GUI elements in place, and .. In general.. I've made a nice solid little game. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/img_2251.jpeg">&l...

Recent changes to how OUYA works, (SDK updates, Razer buying them out, the new Razer Forge Cortex stuff, and more) have rendered the old OUYA target... a bit broken.
The old controller code no longer works 100% of the time on the new Razer Forge, so I took some time rejigging the target, and making it a bit more compatible.
Along the way, I also got involved with a few other devices (mostly PlayJam...

DevelopmentsYesterday I got a rejection email from "OUYA" to say that my references to "OUYA" in the game The Final Warrior on "OUYA" was enough to get it rejected from being on "OUYA". It seems that now that OUYA are no longer OUYA, and are now instead "Razer/Cortex", and as a result I need to stop making so many references to OUYA in my OUYA games. .. Or something to that effect. Changes have been made and the game re-uploaded, and hopefully the new edition will be passed through withou...Views 22, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsIt's about time I started to retweak all those PlayJam games. Although they're suitably working as they are, they all need a little rejigging for the newer system. It seems the new PlayJam device is having trouble with one of my reused menu sound effects.. The tiny "blip" sound effect is less than 1kb, at only 772 bytes. It appears (And I really hope I tracked this down, correctly!) that the newer PlayJam device (FlarePlay) is having trouble with this particular sound effect. S...Views 18, Upvotes 4

Hello, and welcome to yet another multiplayer controller test!!
(Bloody Android.. Grrr!)
(URL "https://socoder.net/Multiplayer_Controller_Test.apk">Multiplayer Controller Test (.apk))
If you have an Android device with more than one controller connected, then I need your help.
Any Android device will do, from a mobile device with a ton of controllers connected, to a proper TV Micro Console or otherwise.
On Monday I intend to start making full use of this, but as with all Android things, it's bes...

Developments"A Quick Test", I said to myself. "Should only take a few minutes", I thought. Two hours later, with no result whatsoever, I opted to call it a night, and instead focussed on Beta Collexion. What was it I wanted to test? Android, Hopefully compatible with None-OUYA devices, controller code. First, I needed to test on OUYA itself, so I grabbed the controller, hit the on button, and switched over to HDMI-2. And waited. .. and waited... .... and waited... Hmm.. Oddly, th...Views 18, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsRAWR! Last night I tried combining multiple controllers into one, which I mostly assumed would fail spectacularly, and indeed it did! The experiment was part of my efforts to get that bloomin' Archos Gamepad to work, but annoyingly trying to combine controllers 1 and 2 (Where controller 1 is the digital buttons, and controller 2 is for some reason the analogue sticks) only resulted in me being given lots of fake controller inputs, leading to the analogue sticks doing all manner ...Views 15, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsHow long have I been coding NeonPlat Adventures 2? Because last night I only just got around to adding moving platforms, and that was one of the first thing I wanted to add to the thing. Grrrr. All this OUYA-Recompile stuff is certainly taking it's toll on getting the newer things done. Other things I wanted to do this year include getting an online scoreboard system working, making a new version of The Gear That Works, and of course making a new Advent Collexion, as well as g...Views 31, Upvotes 8

DevelopmentsI got a new "Timer or Event" bar under the score, in NeonPlat's Cosmic Adventure, which either displays a depleting timer for things like Shields and Speedups, or a set of blocks when displaying weapons and whatnot. It's a fairly simply little bar, and isn't much to write home about, but there it is! Meanwhile I'm also finding (or rather, other people are finding..) a weird quirk with some of my older games, on some Android devices. It seems that upon first load, the games occa...Views 22, Upvotes 7

DevelopmentsHere's, approximately, the insane list of things that did/didn't happen, yesterday. 1. Compile first of about 40 games for the big OUYA Fixup. Went easy enough, and the new controls seem to work just fine. Woot! 2. Upload to OUYA. Didn't work. The whole Certificate thing stopped me, so instead I asked Team OUYA to DELETE ALL MY GAMES!! This gives me a fresh, clean slate to work with, and should help things run a little bit smoother. 3. Waiting for them to do that.. They...Views 19, Upvotes 7

Blog
19th September 2015
DevelopmentsAfter finally getting my Forge/NewYA stuff working, I figured I should let TeamOUYA take a look at what I've got so far. The feedback was roughly "Needs an Exit button". Because the Forge doesn't have the big obvious "OUYA BUTTON" that the OUYA controller has, it's much harder to assume the player has a single button to exit the game. As such, I spent a fair amount of time, yesterday, adding a Quit button into my frameworks. I now need to replace old menus with new menus, incorp...Views 18, Upvotes 4
