Having pretty much messed up this week's game, I figured it'd be a better idea to go for the Tried and Tested, this week.
So, without having to think too hard, it's time for NeonPlat 2!
First job is the art. All nice and hi-res, while still being small enogh to fit as much onscreen as I can.
Level Progression should be dealt with, and a couple more characters, too, so suggestions for those are welcome.
I'll keep you updated, as the game builds!
An update as the game builds..

This week we're playing with Penises!
A remake of a classic test game, that never really went anywhere.
The game is only about half done, since I pretty much rushed the whole thing yesterday, but it has 10 nice levels, and should hopefully be a good start.

Nearly two whole years in, and you'd have thought that more people would've taken notice of the guy making AGameAWeek. I've moaned before about lack of interest, and I go in and out of these little phases.. It doesn't hurt, it's just a little saddening when there's not much interest.
This week, we've hit another "Wha!?" point.
Having finally got the Mac, and released no less than TEN entire Mac games within a week, I've had the lowest number of visits all year!!

Uhoh, the ratio's dropping!
No matter, this week's been SUPER busy, what with it being the week I finally got a Mac.
As seen the other day, I re-released 8 of my games for Mac. It's not just Steam on Mac!!! You can play UFO246, too!
Today sees a couple of extra bonuses.

With all the Mac stuff, I've not had a chance to do a new game.
NOOoooooo!!!!!!
I suppose I could rush something in the next 24 hours, but I'm much rather be playing with those extra trimming, and getting things a little nicer.
First off, Gravity Bombs. Not touched it yet, but it definitely needs at least one tweak. .. the Mac's "Superior" (bah) Magic Mouse has a lot going for it, but it also has an inability to right click whilst holding down the left mouse button. Which is pretty much a require...

Cracking game, this week!
What started out as an unknown game, quickly became fantastically playable. A remake of the little WarioWare UFO Spike thing that I made last week, only with more spike things than is probably sane!
In the end, the game's turned out quite a lot like a Geometry Wars clone. I wasn't expecting that, but there it is!
Two fire buttons, Z for left fire, X for right fire. I wonder how long it'll take for people to realise that, without me having written it anywher...

6th May 2010
I've been trying to keep things juggling around for a while now. Hopping between Socoder work, little bits of music, youtube vids, and then the biggies.. the AGameAWeek's, and the weekly Socoder Newsletter.
There's a heck of a lot to do.
Recently I've also thrown 2WarioGamesAWeek into the pile, and I'm now keeping JNKPlat2010 up in the air, too.
OMG! It's getting mental!!!
To even consider adding to JNKPlatDS08, with some of the more recent blocks, would be a very very silly idea.
It'd be even wor...

Thanks for the Wario-adds so far, and I'm glad to see there's some interesting games coming out of it. ExciteMike's getting some nice little games going, and I've been playing around with Shadow's little boss thing. Not really sure what was going on with that Platdude tune, though, Jiro!!

After the fun of a JNKPlat-based April, it's time to get back into the AGameAWeek spirit, and out of the silly ranty 2BeesInDePub mood that I'm currently in.
This week I'm playing around with black holes. Except they're not black.
The player has 4 coloured shooty bobs, and must fire missiles to clog up the not-black-holes.
Each hole hit blasts out more little missiles, and it all becomes a nice swooshy swirly colourful frenzy of dots.

2beegames.com has, since May 1st, become IndiePub, but haven't bothered to claim indiepub.com domain, or indiepub.co.uk, or .net, or.. well.. whatever.
For the past month or two, they've been banging on and on about their all-new coming soon site, and how amazing and new it'll be. They were originally going for a nice bright yellow theme, with all nice sparkly-ness, and instead seem to have settled on kind of dull desaturated brown/orange theme, along with a complete identity change.
Still, their m...

So, I'm currently busying away redoing all of Sir Voe's gfx, and they're actually fitting in quite nicely. So that's going well.. Gudgud!
I've gotta start working on doing more levels, and I've yet to actually add any new tiles yet. Plenty to do, then.
Meanwhile, if anyone's making any levels, get'em in by Monday, and I'll attach them to the next release.

We're not done yet!
In order to further our quest to redo DS08 in Bigginess, we've also got to redraw all of SirVoe's wonderful alternative graphics that he designed for DS08.
There's 3 extra sets of sprites, and it's taken me about 2 hours to redraw about 1/4 of the first sheet.
Uhoh!!
Rush time!!

As much as I tried to make the 2 versions compatible, I did mess a few things up along the way.
Plungers and Darts move at a slightly different speed, and even Platdude runs at a different "steps-per-block" speed, too.
It's not a whole lot of a difference, but there's enough changes to have broken some of the levels.
So, rather than having a "Load my Levels" option, I'm doing things bit by bit, and ...

Guide Platdude through 45 puzzling platform levels, dodging darts, fleeing flames and always being mindful of mines!
A nice and easy game, with more buttons than you'd probably care for.

Release
15th April 2010
On Sunday we had a new bathroom fitted, during which time we discovered an old leak which had previously gone unnoticed. In what can only be described as "Water Timing" the leak decided to smash through part of our kitchen.
dangit.
So, this week, we've been busy doing house destruction, removing part of the ceiling, and preparing to get a whole new one.
Although I've not really been doing too much towards it, the ceiling coming down isn't the big job, that's coming soon when we put the new one up.. It ...

To the 7 people who asked, the editor has been sent.
This kinda counts as a release, but since it's not a public release, it also kinda doesn't.
2 weeks in, and the game's coming along in leaps and bounds. There's a couple of DS08 tiles that aren't in there yet, but otherwise it's about the same game.

(note, this is a bit waffley, and tends to jump about from point to point!!)
Today I've been working on the editor.
It's been a bit of a challenge, trying to think of every little think you might use, and also the keys for all of it, but I think it's coming along quite well.
Draw with the mouse to draw, left for the selected tile, right for blank.
WASD will scroll the screen around
E picks the tile under the mouse
Q allows you to draw a rectangle using either Left or Right mouse butt...

It's amazing that, a week and a bit later, there are still loads of old things that must be put into the game.
I completely forgot about those little mines, and the TNT Plunger based mines, too!
Then getting them all working on Travellators, too.
Plenty of work.

JNKPlat2010 Teaser
Blog
6th April 2010
Yeay! Platdude's on his way!
Here's the first teaser..
Odd things to spot.
1. Framerate's a little quirky, because my screen-capture STILL sucks, even on the new fancy PC. Dangit.
2. No ingame audio, same reason.
3. Those aren't real levels!! Those are just made up to show off different things.
4. I made the music WAY too short, and couldn't fit all 8 video that I'd captured. Oh well, never mind, there's always the 2nd teaser!
5. The exit doesn't work yet, ...

JNKPlat Week 2
Blog
6th April 2010
No release yet, it's nearly ready, but still so far away!
Not to worry, it's Platdude's month, so let's carry on.
By the end of this month there'll be a PC version, and a Linux version, too.
That's hopefully apparent by now.
What I've not mentioned, yet, is my hopes to recreate this game onto other platforms. So let's talk about that, now.

Seems a bit of a long time for Blocks and Spikes, but those Blocks are always more complicated than they oughta be!
Work is coming along at the regular rate, but I'm now starting to think about the frontend of the game. Not entirely sure what I'll be doing for it.
I might try to replicate the DS's menu screen, since that seemed to work out nicely.
We'll have to wait and see!!
