DevelopmentsI hate waiting.. And now I'm waiting for 2 sets of people to do their Review thing.. TeamOUYA normally get around to things on a Monday, but with all the chaos going on over there, I'm expecting mid-week at the earliest. Meanwhile, PlayJam could take ages. Their reviews seem to be nice and fast, but the delay between Review and Release is somewhat erratic. My first PlayJam game took about a month from when it was "Passed" to when it became available on the system. But recent "...Views 22, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsAnd now we have to wait.. Waiting for both OUYA and PlayJam to review and release the Advent collection, at which point I also click the Publish button over at GameJolt, and set about uploading the game to my own archive, too! .. Which reminds me.. The Archive Still doesn't include PlayJam links, does it.. Hmm... Last night I spent a good few hours working on a newer version of my Monkey Skeleton Framework. It's about 50% rejigged, but I'm sure there's oodles more stuff I c...Views 23, Upvotes 8

DevelopmentsThere are now 26 games in the Beta Collexion. o/hurrayo/ Over the course of today, I'm going to be playing the games over and over and over, to check for bugs and ensure they're as nicely playable as they oughta be, and then it'll be time to upload it. I'll probably give it the weekend before doing all the uploading, giving me plenty of time to pick out any weird oddities along the way, but all should be good to go by then, so review time shouldn't be "too" long.. .. hopefully...Views 11, Upvotes 3

DevelopmentsYesterday I spent a good couple of hours recreating the classic Codemasters title "3D Starfighter" before realising "This game's shit!!" The game was abandoned where it was, but I've left the code in the Arcade Calendar, so I might sneak it in as a bonus game, or something.. *shrugs* It's not a "bad" game, it's just really really dull!!! Luckily, I also made a nice Army game, and that turned out nice and playable, so that's ok. (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads...Views 18, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsI managed to get two more games added to the Advent Calendar, yesterday, which means I now only have 3 more left to tackle. A, U and Z. U can be just about anything, but A and Z need to be extra special as they're the first and last games in the collection. As the first one, A will be unlocked before Dec 1st, so will be playable the longest. Z, on the other hand, opens on Xmas Day.. Hmmm No idea what they're going to be. .. But then I've no idea what U's going to be, either. ...Views 10, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsI spent most of yesterday working on a fairly decent game. I stripped the graphics from an old game I'd made, and reconstructed them all within Beta Collexion. Coding the game was also fairly easy to do, and within a couple of hours I had the game recreated within the new engine. Sure, it's a repeat, but it's been a long long long time (2010) since I last played with this game, so that's ok!! I'm now down to just 5 game left to do in the Beta Collexion.. A, U, X, Y and Z Once ...Views 11, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsSince the XP era, I've been using the Microsoft SyncToy tool to do all my backups, and for the most part it's been doing a damn good job of keeping everything duplicated, over the many different harddrives/NAS's that I've gradually destroyed through the years. A few days ago, however, it started behaving very oddly, and I'm not really sure why. I have a feeling that it's due to Monkey's use of Build folders, and the fact that each game I've written over the past 3 years has incl...Views 21, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsI tried 3 completely different games for "Q", over the course of yesterday, but nothing seemed to be any good. Instead, I left Q for another day, and moved on to C, at which point a nice ball-rolling game appeared and seemed to work fairly nicely. This is the second ball-rolling game in the bundle, but hopefully it's different enough to warrant it. What's becoming a rather worrying trend, however, is that there seem to be a lot of "Move X object through Y random dungeon to find ....Views 21, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsAnother Advent game ticked off, and a whole bunch more to go. I might try to spice yesterday's game up a bit more, before release, as it's a little bland the way it is. Anyhoo, that got done, and then I spent a while playing with audio bugs on the PlayJam devices. If you have an Android device and would like to play "I wonder what happens on MY Android device?" then you can (URL "https://socoder.net/newAPK/02%20-%20Audio%20Test.apk">grab the .apk here.) DevelopmentsOver at Socoder.net, Rychan suggested that I should make a "Bumper Cars" sort of game, whereby you need to whack opponents off a grid. Taking that as a starting point, I figured it was probably a good idea to finally tackle "Thwacking Balls" physics. About an hour or so later, I had a fairly rudimentary ball-physics thing going on, and a nice simple little bumper-ish game going on. "Rolly Balls" won't be unlocked until the 17th December, in the Beta Collexion, so look forward t...Views 20, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsOh dear.. I only managed about half-a-game yesterday. It started off well, but as I needed more and more art assets, I kinda got lazy, drifted off, and then started playing Words With Friends instead of drawing sprites. Whoops! That's not helping the limited schedule, much. Hopefully I can get the game finished, today, and maybe even move on to the next one. DevelopmentsAfter another hour or so of tweaking, I finally got Sheep Goes Right uploaded to both OUYA and PlayJam. Hopefully the game passes through without any issues, but I'm slightly worried that there might be memory based complications. When I tested JNKBombers on my Razer Forge, I didn't spot any errors, but upon review, they send me a "Out of Memory" log, which suggested the Forge might not be all it's cracked up to be. I suspect this to be a case of the system multitasking. On OUYA...Views 20, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsFolk who enjoyed Alpha Collexion after it's December "Advent" mode, might've noticed that the menu system randomly picks a different game each day. I've been using this to pluck a random slot, to try to design a game. Yesterday, it picked out "L", and I got the word Lemming stuck in my head. I tried to come up with a way to make a randomly generated Lemming'ish level, but quite frankly, that's not something you can do in a day. That game never happened, and yet curiously I could...Views 17, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsYesterday was spent much like the day before. In the morning I fixed up and uploaded an OUYA game, and in the evening I created another Advent Calendar game. The Advent Calendar's now up to 12 games, and hopefully I'll continue to do at least one game a day over the next few days, meaning I'm vaguely on schedule to get the whole thing done on time. .. But these things never quite go to plan, do they!? Oh well, fingers crossed! (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/wp-content/uploads...Views 13, Upvotes 3

DevelopmentsYesterday I got a rejection email from "OUYA" to say that my references to "OUYA" in the game The Final Warrior on "OUYA" was enough to get it rejected from being on "OUYA". It seems that now that OUYA are no longer OUYA, and are now instead "Razer/Cortex", and as a result I need to stop making so many references to OUYA in my OUYA games. .. Or something to that effect. Changes have been made and the game re-uploaded, and hopefully the new edition will be passed through withou...Views 22, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsThere are now only 4 games left in my OUYA Redux game list. Platdude in Battling Ostriches should be easy enough to do. The Final Warrior will also be easy, but I shan't be uploading it to PlayJam. PlayJam previously had issues with the end credits of Invisible Munky mentioning the OUYAForum, so I expect that The Final Warrior will be an absolute barrel of chaos, since the giant Twitter-Avatar list contains names and avatars of multitudes of people, including a fair number of O...Views 21, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsYesterday I recreated Hoppy Bobby in the Advent Calendar. It's not an amazing feat, but it is at least something. Other than that, I spent some time rejigging Neon Bike Championships for OUYA, and also sent PlayJam a copy so they can test it to see if it's Multiplayer code is any less crappy than JNKBombers was. I'll keep that copy aside, incase they decide it is indeed worthy of a proper upload, but if you don't ever see it on GameStick/FlarePlay, that'll be why. Today I have...Views 22, Upvotes 5

DevelopmentsIt's about time I started to retweak all those PlayJam games. Although they're suitably working as they are, they all need a little rejigging for the newer system. It seems the new PlayJam device is having trouble with one of my reused menu sound effects.. The tiny "blip" sound effect is less than 1kb, at only 772 bytes. It appears (And I really hope I tracked this down, correctly!) that the newer PlayJam device (FlarePlay) is having trouble with this particular sound effect. S...Views 18, Upvotes 4

DevelopmentsMy latest reworking of my Multiplayer code STILL got rejected by PlayJam. Grrr. Android.. Since the game plays perfectly well with wired controllers, it appears that the actual issue is Bluetooth related. Quite how I can solve such an issue is beyond me. I've now put the Multiplayer games on the backburner, and have instead chosen to focus on getting some actual coding done. Which brings us to this.
