And so it begins.... A whole month of MAR10 games, featuring your favourite (or not) Jayenkai characters, all dressed up like Mario! Hurray!

Usually I'd happily scan in a bit of a page if my games are mentioned, but this time it's a whole entire page, and that's a completely different kettle of fish. (Although, to be fair, I've wr...

That went as well as could be expected. Xmas intervened, family issues cropped up, all manner of snow based issues, and I pretty much rushed through the last 4 or 5 of those! Not that it was entirely noticeable. I happen to think the last two were cracking games. But which were your favourites? Three Hens a-Laying seemed remake-able, could be something more interest. hmm. OK, back to the world of AGameAWeek. AGAW Scoring : 21 weeks, 30 games. Woohoo! Jumped up a wee bit, there! This mea...

I got the basic slot machine reels working. A couple of nice functions. 1 to fill them up, 1 to draw them. Nudges work, Holds work. Everything vaguely important works.. Then I added the Pacman sprites. <img src="https://socoder.net/uploads/1/pacslot.png"> and started to get that "I've already done this, there's nothing new I can add..." feeling. I think I'm done with Arcade Slots. I've already done it.. There's nothing new to add. :sad face:

Aww. Didn't work. This week's Wednesday Workshop (#209) asked us to create a game with some kind of Gravity. If you've been following AGameAWeek for a while, you'll remember Puzzobomb. A nice puzzle game with Gravity. I also did MunkyBlocks as a kind of follow up. Well, this week I decided to try it again, but with rotational gravity, rather than plain gravity. As such, the block will fall in the direction they're placed. They ha...

Last Wednesday I started a new project, it's since gotten out of hand and I need some ideas to help bring it all to a close. Let's start from the top. Over at the MyLGCookie forums, someone asked if there was a nice touchscreen Monopoly. As usual, Jay jumps in and says "Yeah, that'll be nice and easy" ... It's not! See, rather than getting my ass sued off, I decided to make it "But a bit different", and the idea I came up with was to use Patents. Instead of houses and hotels, you ...

OMG! It's a Trial Edition!! WTF!? Demo! ARGH!!! Actually, I've not finished yet. But rather than skip out a week of AGameAWeek, I've decided to release a quick Trial edition. In this version, you must guide Platdude through 11 classic JNKPlatDS08 levels. They're all in there, and they all work approximately as they did before There are, of course, odd timing issues, as I've not quite got everything exact. It's not TOO obvious ...

I made a start on this game a few days ago, and things seem to be progressing at a decent enough rate. The basic gameplay engine is in there, now. The test level (200x50 blocks) loads, platdude can run around, grab onto bars, jump around and use ladders. He can also work plungers and have the blocks open and shut accordingly. So, that's all nice! You might notice that the graphics are looking remarkably similar to JNKPlatDS08. That's because they ARE those graphics! The engine loads t...

I'm jumping all over the place, lately, aren't I!! With Skeleton files to update, Menus to rejig, and even super-complex Socoder work, there's lots and lots and lots for me to do! This morning, I've hopped back to Platdude's Retro Collection 2. Day 14 is a whole day away from Day 13. That can't be good! The game won't be finished for another year and a half at this rate!! Right then.. Menus! Previously I'd copy+pasted the menu system from the previous game. To b...

Platdude Retro Collection 2
25th February 2009
For DS Development, I use PALib and DevKitPro. DevKitPro compiles everything nicely for the DS, whilst PALib is a set of functions that makes everything nice and usable, as opposed be being a baffling chaotic mess! However, if you try updating it, a whole fleet of incompatibilities arise, be it because of DevKitPro changing, or PALib. And, it's not just little things either. A simple PALib upgrade will mean that pretty much all of my old games start getting little breaks in them, and it's a ...

( border="0"><tr><td>Blimey! What a year, eh! I decided to round off the year with a nice big, old fashioned list, with everything in it. Except this doesn't have everything in it, because I've forgotten to add the DS games.. I'll do that later!! (Took me about 3 hours to do this, so I'm not going to tweak it, now!!) Anyway, here's a nice great big list of every game (again, apart from the DS ones) that I made in 2008. It's quite a big list, too.. 31 Games. OK, so maybe not a ...

This week, I haven't entered the Wednesday Workshop. Instead I had a try at the Monthly one (#013), which asked us to create a game with lots of guns, and bullets and shootyness. Since I'd already done a decent enough shooter the other day (H~S) I decided to try my hand at something a little different. <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/windev/sheriffmunky.png"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/windev/sheriffmunky_thumb.png"></a>

If you're following development of Platdude's Retro Collection hoping for a new batch of great games, then you're in luck! TWO great games have been added, TWO rubbishy games have been added, and ONE more game is being worked on right now, as I type this.. Games 1 and 2 are listed in the official page, the Missile Command and Extract games. Nice, simple, retro, fast and fun. Game 3 was also simple and fast. It's the usual "Things pop up, then you tap them. You get a minute, score as mu...

Nothing special this week. If you knew me at the time I did Green's Tiny Collection, then you've no doubt seen this game. <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/shots/bouncer1.png"> I thought I'd post it, though, to remind myself of what a great idea it once was. Keep control of both Platdude and his football. You use the spacebar to jump. Jump and header the football to send it flying over obstacles. If you pick up any items, you can use them by hitting the cursor key in the direction o...

Over the year, I've started a whole big bunch of games. Occasionally I finish a few! Here's some of the ones that involve Monkeys! A mini competition was announced over at BlitzCoder. Create a game using no more than 150 lines of code. I created a silly game featuring a spinning set of monkeys, flying through a multicoloured tunnel. You had to shoot the monkeys. This became Space Monkeys 1 <a href="https://AGameAWeek.com/shots/sm1.jpg"><img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/shots/sm1.gif"...

I get bored. I get bored a lot. Especially when working on large projects. It's nice to occasionally have some weird random thing to do. That's why I set up the Wednesday Workshop. A weekly challenge. Make a game based upon a given theme, or task. Everyone who enters gets put through for a vote. But it's not really about the winning. It's about having something to do when you're bored. And .. I get bored a lot! Click <a href="https://socoder.net/index.php?a=13&user=Jaye...

Platdude. A 16 pixel, 3 color character. Deftly defying the world of 3D models and amazing realism, in favour of good old fashioned gameplay. Over the years, Platdude has been in plenty of games.. Here's an approximate history of Platdude, along with Downloads where appropriate. (Or skip to the bottom for the latest stuff!)
