I like to randomly throw games out there, and see how the general public takes to them. Sometimes it's fun to watch as fun games plummet into disasterous pits of unnoticability. Occasionally, you get a surprise hit, and are kind of disappointed that you hadn't put any kind of pricetag on the thing. Today is a definite example of the latter, as I watch "Every Good Bird" flapping it's way into the stratosphere!

This time last year, I reattempted the game Microbes, but it didn't really work out as well as I'd hoped for. This year, I opted to give it another go, and have mixed in oodles of lovely glowyness! Seems to have done the trick! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Disc_Blaster_20140311A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Disc_Blaster_20140311B_thumb.png">

It was somewhat inevitable that we'd have to revisit the world of SpikeDislike, and since the last game was released around about a year ago, I might as well treat us all to a brand new release! <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Spiky_Tower_20140304A_thumb.png"> <img src="https://AGameAWeek.com/complete/Spiky_Tower_20140304B_thumb.png">

Due to unforeseen circumstances, my entire Cable service is currently down. The engineer's due to show up on Wednesday, but until then I'll probably be offline. I can just about get online via iPad, but that's no way to upload AGameAWeek!! This week's release will, hopefully, be on Wednesday, unless I somehow get online any earlier. Grrr...

Every year for the past few years, I've made one of my games free for the day, to celebrate my birthday. This year, it's been decided that SpikeDislike2 will be the game of choice. Not normally the type of thing I post, here. I tend to leave AGameAWeek to the gamey stuff, but folk keep inquiring, so I guess it's something that some people seem to love to know about!

I have no issues with the game. It's a bit shit, but then so is SpikeDislike.. SpikeDislike is "ball bounces, move right..." and has little or no substance beyond that. Of course, I then added a wonderful combo system, and then made a sequel with oodles of lovely new gameplay styles and plenty of options and such, but at it's heart it's still the same game it always was. Ball bounces, move right... In many ways, so is flappy bird. Flappy bird is "that helicopter game", but with harder obstacles to ...

Last night, I closed my laptop the lazy-man's way, by simply shutting the lid. I should know better. It never quite manages to "Resume Windows" without buggering something up along the way. This morning, it didn't boot at all, and I've spent most of the day doing the big format/reinstall stuff. At the time of typing this, I'm battling with Android and Java SDKs, desperately trying to get that stuff up and running again. Monkey's managing HTML5 and Windows targets, but OUYA and Android are currently o...

A lovely little flying game, this week, as you take control of a friendly little chopper, and try to save all your pals. As you race about the landscape, you'll meet plenty of enemy aircraft, hellbent on stopping you. Attack, Defend, and Survive!!

When I first bought my iPad, I never imagined the amount of "work" that I'd end up doing on the thing. The fact is, it's SO much easier to have your iPad on hand, than it is a giant laptop. That's not to say I don't use my laptop. It's pretty much an essential part of AGameAWeek. You can't exactly do your coding on iOS, so the laptop is there for the majority of the things I do, but over the course of the last year-or-so, I've found myself doing smaller bit-tasks on my iPad. I figured I should probab...

This week we're going to be doing the first part of something that may or may not actually happen!! Since last year was Nintendo's Year of Luigi, the guys over at RetroRemakes have decided that this year oughta be the Year of Horace. I challenged site-admin RobF to attempt to create a different Horace game every month, and post it to OneGameAMonth. I'm not sure he's going to do it, if I'm honest. But the challenge was set, and although unspoken, I figured it would only be fair to challenge myself to t...

There are hundreds of great sites that I should probably link to, and much like linking to my hundreds of games, I've always found it a bit of a mess once I start trying to cram it all into a small sidebar on the right of the site. As such, I've finally opted to create one great big link-page, full of everything I could think of within the short hour or so that it took to add it! If you're missing from this page, let me know!! <table border="1px" cellpadding="2" width="100%"> <t...

Welcome to the Top 13 AGameAWeek Games of 2013 No other Top-10 lists appear to want to give any of my games any recognition at all, which kinda sucks since I've made a whole bunch of REALLY great games, this year! I don't even get a token "Made a shitload of games, this year" mention! Sucks!! So, sod them all, I'll make my own Top-10 list. And it'll be all my games, and I'll even add a few more just to make it a bit more 2013 relevant. That'll show 'em!! Mwa-ha-haaa!!!

The Windows edition of NeonPlat Extreme has just been updated, and hopefully everything works properly, this time. Gamepad support should work properly.. Although it's still refusing to work on my laptop, it is at least working for other testers, so .. um.. I'll just assume it's working fine!! Music's in.. Was it in, last time? I can't remember! There's also a few other nips and tucks, and other little tweaks, to help keep the game running smoothly. *blimey* You can (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/Gam...

The OUYA edition of our great big Neovember game is now available in the OUYA Sandbox. You can grab it from the discovery doohickey. Simply search for "NeonPlat" and you'll find it. The Windows edition will be updated at some point in the next few days, and I'll be hopefully submitting the iOS edition to Apple some time later today. There's still lots of little tweaks to do for the touchscreen controls, but otherwise it's all running nicely. *phew* So much to do! Crazy times ahead!! (URL "https...

My first experience

Me and Spinal were discussing OUYA. He'd just bought one, and was trying to get Monkey to work with it. I dared to mention OUYA in a tweet, and so was instantly followed by OUYAForum's tweetbot, @OUYAForum_com "Nnngh. A generic bloody tweetbot. Can't these companies behave properly?" I thought, and I otherwise ignored it and carried on. A few days later, another minor mention of OUYA on Twitter sparked a second following by OUYAForum's tweetbot. "Hmmm.. Didn't they ...

Nah, not quite. But for a fair bulk of this year, I did manage to keep up the rate. 2013's not been too bad, considering.. Towards the end of January, I finished off my new Monkey Framework, and set about coding with that. Since then, I continued to code games at a rate of one a week, up until the first stumbling block struck in April. I initially intended to code a new word game, each week, and create a huge Stringy Things mega-game during April, but it all went to pot when the Image-Data-Loader did...

Karl's Tiny Adventure was created way, way, way back in March of this year. You can (URL "https://AGameAWeek.com/GameList.php?ShowJust=288">Play Karl's Tiny Adventure here). The game was my first true test of proper "Image Data Loading", and my first proper lesson in Android Fragmentation. Annoyingly, because different Android devices operate in slightly different ways, the Image Data Loading wasn't occurring in an accurate manner, and as a result, the level data was getting all screwed up. As well...

The answer is simply because, a full year earlier, iOS got it's own special little NeonPlat. In February 2012 (Just before my whole hospital saga!) I released NeonPlat on iOS. It featured tilt-controls, and 3 difficulty levels, and stands out as it's own special little version of the...

Yesterday saw the launch of BlastTrax on OUYA. Since I've yet to figure out all that nasty Tax gubbins (I know, I know!!... eventually!!) I've not yet managed to add any IAP stuff to any of my games. Since an OUYA game is freely available as a download, and then the .apk gets reproduced all over the entire internet via robot-spammy-feed sites, you either have to do 100% free, or buttloads of IAP stuff. There's no mid-point, no way to create a "Demo vs Full version", or anything else like that. Since...

The internet is a place for trolls and complainers (like me!) who like to gripe at every opportunity. For the most part, we tend to ignore these types, which generally means that comments sections have become largely ignored. Here at AGameAWeek, the opposite has happened. There are apparently no trolls daring enough to even attempt to play my games! I seem to have scared most of them away. As a result, there are no trollers or complainers here, and since those are the types that make up the 99% of the ...

As the AGameAWeek guy, I'm certainly used to shrugging off failed releases, and in many ways this one should be exactly the same. This is simply one of many releases that I've made this year, and over the course of the year, pretty much all the games have had a day or two of interest, and then quickly...
