At 3pm I have to be at the town hall, where I'm having a discussion with a council worker about my upcoming disability tribunal. Oh the fun!! As such, any and all coding will probably be abandoned for much of the day, as my mind whizzes around trying to decide what I'm going to say, and all that kind of gubbins. Not a fan of this kind of thing, if I'm honest. Hopefully I'll get back on track, later tonight.

As per @RSKGames' suggestion, I've added a couple of Swap mechanics to Tower solitaire. You can swap any free cards in the tower, but only when they're on the same row. You can also swap the topmost card amongst the dealt piles, too. There's not a LOT of things you can swap, but hopefully it should be enough to make things a little bit easier in the 5 and 6 tower modes. You can Play Tower Solitaire in the Card Games section of the Shoebox.

Today I need to rewrite a ton of my input code, to work properly with redefined keys/gamepads, and then add a screen to let you do that. .. More bloomin' menus. Grrr!!

Centipong comes to Switch, with the help of Petit Switch. If you've a Switch, and have downloaded SmileBASIC, you can grab a copy of the game using the Public Key...

My brain seemed to switch off from its regular coding mindset, last night. I did no coding whatsoever, and instead spent a good few hours watching old episodes of Retail Archeology on YouTube. A lovely channel full of dead shopping malls!!

After a couple of days of back&forth, I've finally decided "meh, whatever!" and opted to go for a Coverflow-RipOff style menu. It actually looks rather nice, and scrolls quite well, except on touchscreens where the thing's a teensy bit dodgy due to co-ordinate issues. But otherwise it works nicely. (Although it isn't "quite" centring properly!) Scroll around, select a game, sorted.. Currently all "games" lead to the exact same test engine, but eventually this will (hopefully!) be a ma...

@RSKGames suggests.. Can you consider making a version of the new AGAW JS mega compilation into an electron app so that you can retain the online scoreboard. In a electron app I think you can restrict users getting into the dev console. I'll have a look into it.

Atoms? Blog
13th June 2019
I was flicking through my Shoebox Todo-List, today, and stumbled upon Atoms. I haven't attempted Atoms for a while, mostly because it requires me to draw all those Atoms!! But, today I drew them, and the engine seems fairly capable. (ignore the fact that half those positions aren't "real", it's just a crazy animating thing, right now!)

Today will be without a release, but there's not been an "AGameAWeek proper" for a long time, so I don't think anyone's going to be too disappointed by that fact! But what of the rest of the week?

I'm still marginally hopeful that I can make something fun from the car thing. Right now it's still extremely bland and dull, but I think with a few tweaks, I can manage to get something gamey out of it. I think!

Spent a few hours, yesterday, getting a very basic looking car to drive around a very basic looking grassland. (and/or, blue space with stars in it, acting like a flat driveable area!)

With JMTrackr "done, enough" for Petit Switch, I can now happily move on to actually making games on the thing. I've made a quick list of things I should attempt, today.

I've gotten JMTracker up to a semi-working state, but still have to add test settings for things like Tempo and Instrument selection, as well as a proper Load requester. But so far, so good, and it's a vaguely decent output.. I think!! Although only a proper set of melodies and actual ingame usage will tell for sure..

The "Text Layer" seems to be rather limited. I can print at any position, I can change the colour, I can change the font size.. .. But any changes made will affect the entire screen's worth of text.

So, today I wrote a basic minimal Framework in PetItC4 with simple enough functionality, but hopefully enough to allow for lots of variety in future projects. I've added a basic DrawImg thing, along with my usual set of SetCol, SetAlpha, SetSize and SetRot commands. I've created a sprite loop to draw sprites when required, and blank out any unused sprites at the end of the loop. I DID originally try adding a SPCLR (clear all sprites) at the top of the loop, but that flickered horribly. You'...

WAAARRRNIIIIIIING If you set up a Japanese account to download Petit Switch, be absolutely sure that you continue to use the Japanese account when coding your game. DON'T do what I did, and go "Well, it works in my Jayenkai account.. I'll carry on with that" Because, when you go to upload your finished game, you hit a great big wall.. The account you bought it with gets (I think) 10 "Upload" slots. You can "purchase Slots" for other users.. .. Except my default account can't do tha...
