AGameAMonth?
Blog
8th January 2013
About a month ago, Twitterer @McFunkyPants declared that it might be a fun target for him to attempt one game a month, over 2013.
Other devs took interest, and within a couple of days, his whole OneGameAMonth idea had taken hold of the indie community.
@McFunkyPants has since created a handy community website at (URL "https://onegameamonth.com"> where devs can sign up, and earn XP points as they build their monthly warez.
The community now holds more than 2000 members, and is growing! Cracking stuff...

You didn't get to see a lot of the BlitzMax template, last year, but if you'd like to try your hand at rapid game-dev, you might like to have a peek at it's contents.
If you're a BlitzMax owner, this might be useful to you... maybe.. but you'll have to wrap your head around my coding style, first!

I suppose I should explain things. Right now I'm still learning to cope with my health! It's not easy, and it's taken me a heck of a long time. I'm still not up to 100%, but I'm definitely getting close to it.
I'm quite glad that my mind is intact, given what I've been through, but at the minute my mind seems to be quite happy to sit about and be lazy. Although I've managed to create a couple of little playthings, I'm not yet ready to go the whole hog, and whittle ou...

I've been asked to chip in on this whole Kickstarter issue. If you follow me on Twitter (@Jayenkai) you'll have noticed my dislike of people spamming my twitter feed with constant requests for cash. It's annoying when you get into the busy periods, have your own cash issues to worry about, but still get bombarded by tens of hundreds of requests a day for things that don't yet exist.
As a cash strapped indie dev, I'm in exactly the same situation as most of these guys, with the simple ...

Getting a Laptop
Blog
18th October 2012
I'm a game developer, who usually spends about 16-or-more hours, per day, sat in front of a computer screen. I'm 32 years old.
You would probably imagine that, given both those facts, I've been through a fair number of laptops, over the years.
The truth is, I've never owned a laptop!
Wha...!!??
Heck, even my little sister, hater of 95% things technological, has been through three laptops!
But there it is. I never leave the house, so why bother with a system I can take outside? Forget that! Gimme...

It seems that, since coming out of hospital, there's been a multitude of great things that I seem to be looking forward to.
New Doctor Who, new Red Dwarf, new iPhone, new Wii and then all the great shows that I'd missed whilst I was stuck in hospital, too!
It's like a great big bucket of hype, and it keeps on coming.
As a developer, I'm going to have to buy a new iDevice, to ensure all my games work in the all-new quirky widescreen resolution.
I'll be going for an iPod Touch, mostl...

If you've been following AGameAWeek for the past few years, you'll have noticed the occasional blip, where I've mentioned having a repeating neck cramp, with accompanying migraines. These have gotten steadily worse, up until early March 2012, when I was curled over the toilet bowl, throwing up a worryingly black goo of sorts.
Enough was enough!
An ambulance was called, and after my blood pressure failed to register (too high!?) I was whizzed off to Bolton general where they continued to test...

Aaaah!
I finally got home on Thursday night, and BOY what a relief that was!
Home, My own bed, Relaxed, Relieved!
Luvly.
Except when I sat at my PC, at which point, my difference in eyesight became a bit of a nightmare, as I realised I could no longer see my computer screen!
Noooooo!!!!!
A few days later, a feint, a trip to a docs, and MORE pills being dished out, I'm now oddly able to use the downstairs PC to a certain degree of visibility. It's still a bit blurry, and I really do need...

A Cist
Blog
20th March 2012
The basic result is in.
I have a cist, (of what particular sort I've yet to be told / can remember) somewhere between my brain and my spine, which has been causing "pressure".
Apparently the drain that I had last week is enough to have curbed any possible damage, and frequent scans/drains oughta keep it under control.
They're apparently quite happy to leave the thing in there, since its no longer a threat.? I hope they're right!
...? still not certain about yesterday, though.? ? Tha...

As the Mario game flies over the head of the internet, Jay takes note.
2 days after posting to TIGsource, the first comment went online last night.
"I'm an art guy, so when I see Goombas with holes in their heads instead of shadows, or tiles that have sharp ends, I'm not inclined to give something a try. Maybe someone else will, but my art instinct is telling me to wait for something that recognizes its visuals
Have you had any luck with this elsewhere? The genre doesn't immediately grab me, but a g...

Last month, I got to the end of the month, and opted to leave out the last week.
I was FAR too busy doing Unijuggler iOS, it grew out of control, and AGameAWeek took the fall.
This month, we've reached the last week of the month, and a similar kind of thing has happened.
I've spent the past four days working on a "Not Cluedo, Honest" game, and although it's gone well, it's also not!
The game looks ok, but it doesn't really play well at all.
The game tries to be playable, but the boardgame nature brin...

Before starting development on NeonPlat Adventures, I took great care to test all the alternatives.
I'd read online about OSX Lion breaking Blitz, and people needing to fuck about with lots of settings and things.
The scary part was that developing on Lion would probably break compatibility with Snow Leopard.
As such, I made a few test engines, and got people with Lion to test my games, to be 100% sure that, if I stuck with Snow Leopard, my games would be 100% compatible with BOTH sets of users.

A lot of elements are currently coming together, and things are getting a little more chaotic than I'd like them to be around Xmas time.
If the past 2 years of Xmas themed chaos (12 games of Xmas, Advent Collection) have taught me one thing, it's not to EVER plan anything around Xmas!
Presents, family visits and the general filling of my face with Xmas cake, will usually get in the way of the coding time, and as such I decided not to push myself into anything moronic this year.
I apologise if you're deep...
