New games every week!
Reading Day Blog
27th March 2019
I spent most of yesterday doing some techy reading, and planning ahead for Shoebox's future.

I've been hunting to see if it's possible to get any kind of multiplayer stuff to work, between two devices. It would certainly be a nice addition, but since the whole game is written using basic JavaScript, as of 2019 I'm not entirely sure it's doable.

Of course, I could use the server, and that's essentially what a lot of googling is telling me to do. Send data to server, retrieve it on the other device, and vice versa. But that seems awfully wasteful, especially if both players are sat in the same room.
In an ideal world, I'd like to hit a third option in Four in-a Row, which says "vs Connect" (or something!) and have the two players connect magically when nearby.

... Doesn't look like that's going to be doable, though, without having to connect to the server a few times every second. And that's a bit of a shame.

Never mind. I'll keep the idea in mind, and will at least start to attempt to work in a methodology so that I can possibly add this stuff in at a later date.
I've already been planning ahead ways to easily sync the two players, so hopefully I can feed those ideas into the engine, at least in the background.

.. maybe!
