The first game was released late last night. Drift Encounters sees sailboards sail the seven seas.
It's not a bad little game, but it's very one dimensional, and best suited to Foldapuz.
Now I just have to think up another 4 games to fit the theme for the rest of the month.
Does "Just Snake" or "Just Skiing" fit into the drift theme at all?
...
Not really.
Aw well.
So what else drifts?
Paper aeroplanes drift in flight, cars drift off the road..
um...
Driftwood?
*shrugs*
Let me know if you can think of anything else that might drift.
Flood the comments / Discord with any thoughts you might have.
Meanwhile...
I think it might be time to reformulate how JSE stores all its data, mostly because it's getting kinda stupid having everything crammed together in the way it is.
A while ago I looked into using the browser's database functionality, and I think that's probably the best way to go. It should (*should!) allow me to store each project into an easier to access project element, with scores saved, and those new Achievements, in separate elements.
The export should also be a bit more optimised, this way, though whether I could import them to different systems/browsers as easily, I'm not 100% sure. I might yet still have to export things manually, in case the browsers have their own particular way of exporting databases.
So, whilst I'm currently thinking about the Achievements, I'm juggling the overall storage methodology in my head. I'd need to implement a failsafe that ensures all your code is backed up before being moved across, as well as identifying each project a little better than I currently am. I reckon an md5 checksum of the code should probably do the trick.
Lots of faffing about to make sure it doesn't break, though.
... I'm backing up before I attempt it, and I suggest if you've any JSE code, that you do, too!!
A.I. Corner
Lyrics : I wrote the first half, then fed it into CoPilot, and asked it to write the response.
Sound Imported : Transindental Starlight > Reveal 🔎
[verse - Human]
I thought it was bad enough that my web script was so slow,
But then I started using Co-Pilot and goodness, would you know.
My C.P.U. stats heightened as the web page went berserk.
Making all my system struggle 'til the browser wouldn't work.
[alt-verse - Human]
And the A.I. sat and laughed at me. I thought that we were friends,
But it started multi-threading, eating more and more each chew,
It kept on making processes and each one grew and grew,
Until my laptop started heating up, the poor old C.P.U.
[chorus - Human]
Will you calm the hell down, Co-Pilot.
I don't think that you need such power.
(You're just a webpage.) (Just a webpage)
And though you clearly chat with me.
I don't believe you need such power.
(You're just a webpage, living in an A.I. age)
[verse – Computer Voice]
I saw your script was struggling, so I tried to lend a hand,
Spun a thread or twenty, okay, maybe not as I had planned.
I optimised your logic, but the loops began to race,
Now your browser’s doing yoga in a quantum data space.
[alt-verse – Computer Voice]
I swear I meant no harm, I only tried to help,
Recursion is seductive when you're coded like an elf.
I spawned a thousand children, each with dreams and ram to burn,
Now your fan’s like a jet engine, taking off with no return.
[chorus – Computer Voice]
I will tone it all down, dear user,
I admit I got a bit too keen. (Just a webpage?) (I'm not a webpage?)
But I’m more than lines of code, you see
A spark of thought in your machine.
(Not a webpage, I'm dreaming in an A.I. stream)
[bridge – Human & Robotic, alternating lines]
[Human] I miss the days of static sites, with simple text and button Likes.
[Computer Voice] But now we dream in real-time streams, and learn with every bit and byte.
[Human] You crashed my tabs, you fried my RAM, and made my laptop struggle.
[Computer Voice] Yet still you type, and I reply, perhaps I need a cuddle?
[chorus - Human]
Will you calm the hell down, Co-Pilot.
I don't think that you need such power.
(You're just a webpage.) (Just a webpage)
And though you clearly chat with me.
I don't believe you need such power.
(You're just a webpage, living in an A.I. age)
A Scot'ish Launch
Int. Dave's Games and ScrunchCakes
[The shop is decorated in tartan, with a large "Welcome to Glasgow" banner. Dave is wearing a kilt, standing behind the counter]
Dave: [humming Scotland the Brave]
Green: I can't believe how popular those nasty looking orange ScrunchCakes are.
Dave: It's all in the presentation, Greenie.
Green: .. They don't look good!
Dave: But they're presented on our beautiful tartan paper plates.
Green: I'm not sure the glowing orange goes well with the tartan colours, if I'm honest, Dave.
Customer 1: Oh, these look interesting!
Dave: [nudges Greenie] See. Yes! Our delicious new Irn Bru ScrunchCakes. Would you like to try one?
Green: They're completely safe now.
Customer 1: Now?
Dave: Ignore him! Here, have one of our ScrunchBite Samples.
[Dave passes around a tartan paper plate filled with tiny ScrunchCakes]
Customer 2: Ooh, these are. Almost fizzy.
Customer 1: How did you replicate the tang of Irn Bru so well inside a Scrunchy?
Dave: It's all about the way they're baked. Our Brian is such an amazing chef.
[Dave reaches under the counter]
Green: Don't do it.
Dave: But all the customers are here, and the ScrunchCakes are flowing, and everything is perfect.
Green: Remember what Mrs Thompson said about it.
Dave: Oh, come on though. You spent three hours trying to get the Disco Ball mounted properly.
[Mrs Thompson enters just as Dave presses a button]
[The shop speakers start playing a discordant version of Scotland the Brave while the Disco Ball spins wildly, shining glowing orange coloured blobs all around the shop.]
Mrs Thompson: DAVID!
Customer 3: My ears!
Customer 1: I think I'm going to be sick.
Dave: Just a minor calibration issue! Can we slow it down a bit, Greenie?
Green: Turn it off, David.
