It's certainly a bit more vibrant than it was before, with everything having been given a nice little colour-bar makeover.
The icons feel a little less disjointed, and having only one of the logos onscreen also seems to help a ton, though it is now a little less immediate because of that.
Unfortunately, if we flick over to Portrait mode, the new style is only showing one icon at a time, so we're back to an endless scroll again. I might see about shrinking things down when in Portrait mode, to give the menu a little more breathing space.
I know I said "less grid, less rows", but I think it's ok like this... Isn't it?!
Does that look to you?
I mean, I could probably make the rows into wiggly lines or something, but that seems a bit silly!
Otherwise, though, it's looking much nicer, and everything's a lot less "doors and cabinets". It generally flows better as a result.
My next challenge will be taking things from "mostly horizontals" of the selection screen to being "mostly verticals" as I transition from the menu to the Game Titlescreen, where the scores are down the right hand side in a sidebar. .. Or are they horizontal scores layered down the screen in rows? .. Guess that depends on how you think about it, really.
That's today's challenge. To rework the game title screens, hopefully into something a little more unusual.

Honestly, this style of titlescreen has been a standard of AGameAWeek since as long as I can remember. (2010??)
I grabbed Switch 1, last night, whilst transferring a few additional bits and pieces from that to the Switch 2, but noticed the battery indicator going absolutely mental!!
Over on the top left, the "Console battery low" warning kept popping up every few seconds, and if you were trying to play it, it'd drive you crazy.
Aargh!!
Can't have that, especially when Mum's playing Puyo Puyo Tetris on it.
After a complete discharge + recharge, though, it seems to have settled down a fair bit.
*phew*
I'll be doing a second discharge+recharge today, and hopefully it behaves itself!

[Dave and Brian are seated at a small table, intensely focused on their phones. Dave is animatedly demonstrating something to Brian.]
Dave: See? It’s brilliant!
Brian: An organisation spreadsheet?
Dave: No! Not a spreadsheet with organised things in it. It's literally an organiser .. for organising Spreadsheets! I can colour-code references, schedule spreadsheet updates, even set reminders to double check for errors on Sunday nights after the Church Fete. It's the future of data management!
Brian: [Nodding slowly] Right, so.. it’s an app that manages other apps?
Dave: No, it doesn't manage the other apps. It manages me, to manage the other apps. Specifically the spreadsheet apps.
[Dave swipes through the app with a flourish]
Dave: Look. A pivot table! Stunning, isn’t it?
Brian: Is there a point to that?
Dave: The point IS the pivot! Look.
[Dave tries to pass the phone to Brian, but it slips and hits the floor.]
[Simultaneously, with a loud whirring sound, all the exterior shutters of Dave's Games and ScrunchCakes slam shut.]
Green: [from the shop floor] David!!
Dave: Sorry! My bad. [To Brian, looking slightly panicked] Thank goodness I haven't hooked up the Sentinel to my phone, yet. I'd never hear the end of it!
Brian: So, the spreadsheet controls the shutters?
Dave: [tapping the phone] No, just the shutter app controls the shutters. But I think I need to disable the emergency "bump-lock" feature.
BrianL Bump lock?
[More loud whirring, as the shutters re-open]
Dave: It’s about efficiency, Brian! Think of the possibilities! Automated stock management, dynamic pricing.
Brian: And shutters that randomly close because you dropped your phone?
[Green bursts into the staff room]
Green: What happened? The customers are looking at me like I’m running some sort of ancient medieval dungeon with arcade machines and cakes!
Dave: [Fumbling with his phone] Sorry, I got it. I dropped the phone. Well, I didn't, Brian did.
[Brian shrugs]
Green: [Sighs] You know that manual key we talked about? Maybe leave a spare somewhere for emergencies.
Dave: [Grinning] Always thinking ahead, aren't you Greenie?
[End Credits Roll]
