Yesterday didn't go as planned, and ended up being a day focussed on the SoCoder Forum.
-=-=-
I started the day well enough, with plans in mind, but then the Question of the Day popped up over an SoCoder, and...
Honestly, it feels like it's a question that's been asked a hundred times already.
The whole QOTD section is getting repetitive and bland, which I guess comes when there's been, literally, a thousand days since the feature launched as an automated QOTD on the site.
How many questions can you possibly go through?
So, I opened up Claude.ai, and the two of us had a little chat about the QOTD feature, and whether there was any alternatives that I could put in its place.
We discussed how, a number of times, I've set out a themed calendar for creativity or photography or art or what have you.
Together, we came up with a new plan.
Each week would have a different theme (because themes have kinda been working out for AGameAWeek, this year.)
And each week would have preset days.
Monday's for Meme'ing, Tuesdays for Teaching, Wednesday for general purpose Worklogs, Thursdays for Throwbacks, Fridays for Fotos (roll with it!), Saturday's Screenshots and Sunday's a Showcase if you've made anything for the week.
Wednesday and Saturday are general days, they don't need to be theme related, but I keep forgetting to post the Wednesday Worklog threads, and the Screenshot Saturdays are always nice to have.
So, yeah, I think that might work out well for the forum. It'll probably bring a bit more activity than the QOTD threads have been delivering, as of late.
So, I got Claude to generate a ton of weekly themes to keep the new feature working well enough over the coming .. um.. There's 300 of 'em. So a while.
And I sat and wrote the start of a script which would (hopefully!) bring us all the features on a daily basis.
Presuming I can wrap my head around the complexities of having the script post things itself, that is!!

A spreadsheet full of questions, unused,
Waiting for their time in the limelight.
But it isn't going to happen. I've abandoned the idea.
I'm going to try something new and original.
[chorus]
Weekly themes like we used to have, back in the days of the workshop.
We'll lay out some projects to do through the week.
Can you draw something cool, make a game, make a tool?
There's going to be lots of opportunities to try something cool.

[verse]
Don't ask me a question. I don't need that no more, um.
I'm going to try something new for the forum.
So let's pick a theme, and we'll see where it goes.
Will it be that exciting? I guess no-one knows.
[chorus]
Weekly themes like we used to have, back in the days of the workshop.
We'll lay out some projects to do through the week.
Can you draw something cool, make a game, make a tool?
There's going to be lots of opportunities to try something cool.

[bridge]
We'll try something new. Let's go with the flow.
Twist all the methods, and see where we go.
It won't quite be fun like the workshop was aimed,
But none of us have time to do weekly games.
(Well, one of us does, but that's not as much fun, when you're doing the whole thing all on your own.)

Int. Dave's Games and ScrunchCakes - Wednesday Morning
[Dave is at the counter with a customer holding a copy of I-Ball from the Amstrad CPC]
Dave: We have a sale on, right now. Buy any game, and get Count Duckula 2 for half price.
Customer: No thanks, just the I-Ball. My kid loves his iPhone.
Dave: It's not quite the same.
Green: [muttering] Not even close.
Customer: No, but it's i-Thing. He'll love it.
Dave: Well, technically, this is from 1987.
Customer: Does it need batteries?
Dave: It needs a whole computer.
Customer: Oh, he's got a computer! One of those Chrome things.
Dave: [looking desperately at Green] Help me out here.
Green: Is everything ok, here, sir?
Dave: I was just trying to explain about the I-Ball game.
Customer: I'm trying to buy this game for my son, and .. Your staff member seems to be telling me I shouldn't.
Dave: [wide-eyed] But.. I...
Green: I think what my staff member is trying to say is that this might not be suitable for running on a phone. It's meant for older computers.
Customer: Yes, he has a computer, too. It isn't an iMac, though he did used to have one.
Dave: Even that..
Customer: Will it work on a Chrome?
Green: A Chromebook?
Customer: No it's a Chrome Laptop.
Green: [to Dave] Maybe we oughta rethink the whole game section?
Customer: I'll just take the I-Ball, please.
Dave: [defeated] That'll be £2.99. Would you like a receipt?
Green: Oh, he'll definitely want a receipt.
