The complete NeonPlat character list is in the enemy sprites for the upcoming Neon Tower Defence game, including Evil Santa! Gosh!!!
Here you can see me testing the movement code, yesterday. Spawning enemies completely at random with random Hit Points (and therefore different sizes) and they're all navigating the paths nicely.
Frustratingly "Zombie" looks more than a little wonky, with one leg stuck in the air, so I need to redraw him, but (other than the fact that the sprites are only ever wiggling because there's not enough sprite-space to animate them) the rest of the characters seem to be rather well suited for this game.
Neat!
So, I can spawn, and they will roam, and eventually hit the castle, at which point they vanish.
Next will be to add functionality to the turrets. I obviously need a control scheme so will be making NeonPlat a playable character in the game. He'll have to run around between rounds, building up and fixing turrets as he goes, but I've not yet decided on the best way to award him Build Points.
I'm thinking just a "You get 3 build points per round" mechanic will likely do the trick, if I'm honest.
I mean, I could do something like "Collect tokens for everything killed", but .. Then you'd either collect all the tokens after a 100% successful round... or not... and if not, you're already being punished by having the castle be damaged, right? So that's not really very fair, is it?
...
??
How do normal Tower Defence games do this? I honestly think I've only ever played two of them in my life! .. And one of them was the one I made in PlayMyCode, so that doesn't really count!
Anyway that's today's task.
Adding the "actual" gameplay, building rounds, working out progression and things of that sort.
[verse]
Don't get distracted.
Keep on working onwards to your goal.
What's the plan? I don't know.
Something, something, coding, glow and neon.
[chorus - more]
Come on, and focus. Stick with what you're doing.
No procrastination or you'll never be finished.
Keep alert, stay on goal, and complete your daily chores.
Work towards the target and the prize is surely yours.
[break]
[verse]
It's an effort, sometimes. You'll maybe lose sight.
But keep reminding yourself which way is right.
Perform your tasks in a steady progression,
Piece by piece in a long coding session.
[chorus - epic]
Come on, and focus. Stick with what you're doing.
No procrastination or you'll never be finished.
Keep alert, stay on goal, and complete your daily chores.
Work towards the target and the prize is surely yours.
[break]
[bridge - calm]
Of all of the work that you have to perform,
There's often a road block to stop you.
Think it all over as best as you can,
And you'll find a unique way through.
[break]
[chorus - big finish]
Come on, and focus. Stick with what you're doing.
No procrastination or you'll never be finished.
Keep alert, stay on goal, and complete your daily chores.
Work towards the target and the prize is surely yours.
Int. Dave's Living Room - Morning
[Dave sits at his computer, surrounded by half-eaten Sausage ScrunchCakes. His phone shows a text from Green]
Dave: [reading text] "probably from that god-awful Sausage thing you made me eat yesterday." Hmph. Critics.
[Dave turns to his computer]
Dave: Looks like it's just you and me, today, Lady Computer.
Lady Computer: *displays love heart*
Dave: More reviews it is, then.
Dave: [typing and speaking] "The Spectrum version of Manic Miner remains a forever classic. Seven flashing keys out of two chomping toilets."
[Dave reaches for another Sausage ScrunchCake]
Dave: Greenie's crazy, these are beautiful. Especially the sugar layer.
[Takes a sip of Coke]
Dave: Ride that sugar wave. Wooohooo!
Lady Computer: *changes the love heart to a dying heart*
Dave: Could be worse. Could've given him that experimental batch with the mystery fridge items. I never did figure out what was in the purple bottle.
[Returns to typing]
Dave: "Much like the cornflakes in my latest culinary disaster, the pixels in Manic Miner have a certain crunch to them..."
[End credits roll as Dave contemplates whether to include his ScrunchCake recipe in the review's footnotes]
