I've got a crapload of junk in here!!! (WARNING : Waffle ahead!)
-=-=- Since the move 12 months ago, I still haven't got Router 2 and my NAS network stuff up and running. This is mostly in part because I haven't had the opportunity to do the job of dragging giant ethernet cables through the mostly untouched bungalow, but also because my bedroom only has one double-socket in it. We know the bungalow's had a rewiring done, since the wiring is all "from the roof, down", whilst a LOT of other bungalows in the area seem to have much older wiring, older sockets (with super dangerous looking switches!) and the wiring is mostly under the floorboards coming up to the sockets. We're not 100% sure when ours was done, but the fusebox looks a lot like our old one, so late 80s perhaps. In fact, we know the previous tenants here actually moved in around the same time that we moved into our previous house. In fact, there's a LOT of weird co-incidences like that. We really were destined to move here, I think!! But either way, my bedroom only has a single double socket, and if you know me and my gadgets.. .. TV, Printer, MacMini, Macbook & iPad charger, and Screwdriver charger are all permanently connected, which leaves.. 2 sockets minus 6 plugs... ... .. .. Yeah, the router and the NAS aren't plugged in right now. Obviously, I'll unplug the screwdriver at some point (we've not yet setup the "Tool Station" in the dining room.. .. We've not yet started work on redoing the dining room!) The ROG Ally is currently timesharing the iPad's USB-C connector, as is the Quest 3. At the moment, I'm using the old (2015!) MacMini to host a little bit of backup space, as well as using an external USB drive to do a second backup, but it sure would be nice to have something that isn't as tetchy as that MacMini is, which makes me wonder if it might be time to overhaul my setup a little. Earlier today, I told Amazon to tell Santa that I want a dock for my ROG Ally. Hopefully he responds in kind. If I get one of those, I can (I think!!) hook the ROG up near the iPad Charger, and plug everything through that. .. I think.. Then I can start to reduce a lot of bits and pieces from my desk, and hopefully make things a little less.. ... .. um... There are currently 3 random lightbulbs sitting on my desk, next to the Amiga 600, and a myriad of DS/GBAs. I don't really use my desk, except for throwing random bits of tat on it. Right, so.. The MacMini's going to be going away, and the old 3 laptops that are sat in the corner of the room probably should, too. Don't you dare say I need to put the Amiga away!! The VCR should probably go somewhere safe, along with the PS3 and PS4 that haven't been plugged in since moving here. (The VCR has literally had more power-up time than both the PS3 and PS4 combined, in the past year!) And there's a Scanner, too. That would've been great sat atop the Printer, but the Printer's pages come out the top of the thing, so you can't even use it as a great big table... What's the use of that!!! Bah. .. To be honest, who even uses a Scanner, anymore? Surely your phone's camera's good enough for most cases, right!? Gawd, you'd have thought I would've organised all this by now, wouldn't you? We've been here a year. I know that one of my Ikea Drawers is FULL (And I mean FULL!) of controllers. If I could bring those out, I can probably fit most of the above "junk" into that drawer. Then I "only" have an insane amount of game controllers to contend with. I bet I could get some sort of hook/stand setup that I could put maybe on a wall or something, that could display those. Those would definitely be the sort of things I should be displaying, instead of having big chunky rectangular blocks taking up bedroom space. Yeah, I might look into something for that. I bet that'd be better. Probably should throw/give away some of this stuff, if I'm completely honest! Code : 0/5 Worked : 0/5 Fun : 5.5 - Yesterday was mostly spent doing MusicAL things. A.I.
