I got around to testing arrays properly, yesterday.
-=-=-
The system now has a simple rot13 based encryption on everything going into the arrays, so even the Banned Word list should at the very least be vaguely well tweaked.
If I'm honest, though, that's really not enough, but everything is wrapped into a txt=Rot13(txt) function, so I can easily add more complexity to that function, and sanity oughta be well preserved.
Meanwhile, I'm throwing some of the phrases into a new Phrases[] array. This is where the file size expands!! I'm currently up to 153kb for the GTTBrain.js file, and it seems to be growing exponentially with every extra day that I work on it!
Of course, 153kb isn't "too" much.
.. But Pitman Typing Tutor on the Amstrad CPC takes up ...
A teensy bit less space than that.
Oops!
No matter. The engine can at least cope with three "levels" for each string.
Level 1 : Lowercase, no punctuation
Level 2 : Capitals, no punctuation
Level 3 : Capitals and punctuation.
Those levels will be unlocked as Advent continues, so I can reuse the same strings, but they'll feel slightly different depending on which mode you're playing on. Should help keep down those filesizes a bit
Aye, it's all shaping up rather well.
I still need to flick through all these giant arrays, though, to be sure they make sense and aren't offensive in any way.
.. And those lists are growing!
[verse]
Carl's cafe sells cool creams.
I wonder what sort they are.
Perhaps they're like milk for a coffee or tea.
Or maybe ice cream in a bowl or a sundae.
I hope it's a sundae,
'cos those are my favourites.
Drizzled with all of the
glorious syrup.
[pre-chorus]
A cherry on top
to add extra flavour.
I hope that they're ready.
I'm gonna eat many.
Please tell me that Carl sells a sundae.
(oooh, oooh, sundae)
[rap chorus]
In a glass,
They are class,
Gonna wolf it down,
With a spoon,
Or a straw,
Gimme more.
'cos I want,
All the cream,
So delicious,
And so mean.
Add some chocolate,
in a chip,
Make me flip
When I eat it,
With a wafer,
And some mint.
[Matt is standing with his arms crossed, looking around the bunker with a mix of awe and frustration. Dave is eagerly showing off his creation.]
Dave: It's my secret lair, just like in my dreams!
Matt: Dave, I can't believe you built a bunker under RCHomes without telling me. This is worse than when you tried building that rubbish Holodeck that almost destroyed the cosmos.
Dave: But Matt, it's a lovely bunker! And look ... a brand new Coke-powered holodeck!
Matt: Nope.. No.. Get rid of that. I'm not having it here. No way. That has to go.
Dave: Aww, come on Matt. It's not like I'm going to set fire to anything, here!
Matt: That's not very reassuring, Dave. Not when the cosmos is at risk.
[Scene Two]
Int. Dave's Bunker - DACMA Exhibition Area
[Dave is proudly showing Matt his Coke memorabilia collection]
Dave: And here's my vintage Coke can collection! I've even got one on a special podium!
Matt: They're just coke cans, Dave.
Dave: But DACMA could be a real hit! We could charge admission!
Matt: No, Dave. This place is a deathtrap.
Dave: Deathtrap? Where!?
Matt: [points] .. The roof's caving in over there.
Dave: Yeah, I need to fix that.
[Scene Three]
Int. Dave's Bunker - Living Area
[Matt is sitting on Dave's couch, looking conflicted. Dave is pacing excitedly]
Matt: Dave, I can't just let you keep an unauthorised bunker under RCHomes.
Dave: But Matt, think of the possibilities! We could use it for storage, or emergency housing, or...
Matt: (interrupting) Or as a hideout when you inevitably cause another disaster?
Dave: (grinning) Exactly! See, you get it!
Matt: (standing up) Look, Dave, I appreciate the effort you've put into this, but...
[Suddenly, a rumbling sound is heard, and Coke starts seeping through the ceiling from the coke fountain outside]
Dave: Yeay!
Matt: (facepalming) Dave, no!
Dave: (already running towards it with a bucket) Dave, yes!
