I spent most of yesterday working on SoCoder'y stuff.
-=-=-
First off, I did a little tweaking to the way the upload list shows, making things a bit more blocky, which is ironic given how much work I put, last week, into removing the blockiness to the site in general.
Huzzay for the Uploader being its own bloomin' thing!
Once that was done, I did some fiddling, and got minimal Mov/MP4/Avi support working in the uploader.
The uploader plops a thumbnail whilst it's doing it, and leaves you with a nice bit of BBCode that you can use on the forum.
There's still the issue of the uploader having a file size limit. I need to decide on what I should make that. Play about with loads of videos and see what's a good average size that I should use, without turning my server into Indie-YouTube-Central.
.. Because, I bet you £$1,000,000 that'd cost more than I'm currently paying in server costs!!
But it works, and it seems to work reasonably well, which is nice.
Play Video
It currently won't play "in the page", because I'm slightly worried about ending up with threads full of hundreds of videos, completely murdering the server.
The "Play Video" with a thumbnail seems good enough to me!
Let me know of your thoughts.
[verse]
I tweaked the upload script.
I added to it.
So I could upload clips,
And watch them through it.
Video bits so tiny and small,
I had to allow to upload them all.
I hope I don't go to far with this.
But it might be ok with tiny clips.

[verse]
I tweaked it long and short,
So that it could report,
When A.V.I's were posted,
And M.P.4's are toasted.
So that I can delete
If they were indiscrete.
I don't want none of that.
To be upon my server.

[Dave is bustling around, arranging his inventions and Coke cans. Green is observing with a mix of amazement and concern.]
Green: I have to say, Dave, this is quite impressive. But I'm curious, where's all the power coming from?
Dave: (grinning) The cabbage patch, obviously.
Green: (confused) The cabbage patch? How on earth...?
Dave: (proudly) I've hidden tiny solar panels between all the cabbages. It's brilliant, isn't it?
Green: (skeptically) Solar panels? In Britain? Are you sure that's reliable?
Dave: Of course! I've made some modifications. They work even when it's cloudy, which is... well, always.
Green: (sighing) I should have known you'd come up with something like this. No more fun for the boring one.
[Scene Two]
Int. Dave's Bunker - Afternoon
[Dave is showing Green around his new lair]
Dave: (excitedly) And here's my new Coke fountain! Want to see it in action?
Green: (alarmed) Coke fountain, Dave? No!
Dave: (already pulling a lever) Dave, yes!
[A stream of Coke erupts from a nearby pipe, narrowly missing Green]
Green: (exasperated) And where does all that go, exactly?
Dave: (beaming) Isn't it great? I've got a whole Coke-based ecosystem down here!
[Greenie watches as the coke drains through small ridges around the room]
Dave: And then it fills up the bathtub! It's so awesome!
[Greenie eyes Dave up and down.]
Dave: Don't worry, it's for the cabbages, silly!
[Scene Three]
Int. Dave's Bunker - Evening
[Dave is tinkering with a new invention while Green looks on nervously]
Green: Dave, are you sure this is safe?
Dave: (dismissively) Oh, relax! This time it's different. Nothing in here is connected to RCHomes. The worst that could possibly happen is that we explode inside an underground bunker.
Green: Riiight. And we need the doors sealed because..?
Dave: Well, then all the coke might escape!
[Dave flips a switch, and suddenly the bunker is filled with holographic images of various Coke dispensers]
Dave: (excitedly) See? It's just like in my dreams!
Green: Holograms?
Dave: (proudly) It's like having my own secret lair! Want to see my next invention?
Green: (hesitantly) That's OK, Dave. One scare is enough for today, thanks.
Dave: (grinning) My amazing Bunker adventure has only just begun!
