Today's Toy is just a small graphical effect.
Nothing amazing, if I'm honest, but it does look really kinda cool.
The effect uses a tilemap, and a random "move it down and stretch it a bit" method to slowly create the style. It's turned out rather pretty, and even Mum likes the effect!
It's a shame it's completely unusable in 99% of cases!
But I guess that's one of the reasons I'm doing these Toys, right? Just experimenting.
.. Should've made those tutorials.
Meanwhile...
Can't believe we're already halfway through the month.
All this Toy making has built up a JSE Fix-list of 12 items, so far, though I've already fixed 2 of those, so that's nice.
There's a new RndP/RandP command, which will randomly flip-flop the sign on the random number. This means that instead of typing...
Speed=Rnd(1,3);if Rnd(0,10)<5 then Speed=0-Rnd(1,3)
You can now just type
Speed=RndP(1,3)
and that'll do the same thing.
Handy!
[Dave is sprawled on his couch, flipping through a pet magazine. Green enters, sipping coffee.]
Dave: (excitedly) Green! I've had the most brilliant idea!
Green: (warily) Oh no.
Dave: I'm going to get a pet cat!
Green: (surprised) Oh no! Dave, are you sure about this?
Dave: Absolutely! I've even started thinking of names. How about Mauve?
Green: (confused) Mauve? I don't think cats come in Mauve.
Dave: (shrugging) Doesn't matter! The color doesn't have to match. You're not wearing anything Green.
[Scene Two]
Int. Dave's Room - Afternoon
[Dave is now surrounded by pieces of paper with cat names scribbled on them. Green looks increasingly concerned.]
Dave: Okay, how about these: Coke Can, Mr. Whiskers, or Sir Purrington the Third?
Green: (sighing) Dave, a pet isn't just about picking a cool name. It's a full-time responsibility.
Dave: (dismissively) How hard can it be? I'll feed it, play with it, and we'll watch Garfield together.
Green: (sarcastically) Oh yes, because TV-watching skills are crucial for pet ownership.
Dave: (excitedly) Maybe the cat will even talk to me!
Green: (facepalming) Dave, cats don't talk.
Dave: (mysteriously) That's what you think. But I have my suspicions...
[Scene Three]
Int. Dave's Room - Evening
[Dave is now pretending to hold an invisible cat, while Green watches in exasperation.]
Dave: (to the imaginary cat) Who's a good kitty? You are! Yes, you are!
Green: Dave, you realize there's no actual cat there, right?
Dave: (ignoring Green) I think I'll name him Cola. He can be friends with the Cola Genie!
Green: (exasperated) For the last time, there's no such thing as a Cola Genie!
Dave: (defensively) Cola the cat believes in him!
Green: (sighing) Dave, let's think about this logically. How are you going to afford a cat when you can barely pay rent?
Dave: (thoughtfully) Hmm, you're right. Maybe Cola the cat can get a job! He could be a TV star like PC Springer!
Green: (giving up) What on earth is that? You know what? I'm going to bed. Wake me up when you've returned to reality.
[As Green leaves, Dave continues talking to his imaginary cat]
Dave: Don't worry, Cola. Green will come around. And if not, we can always ask Andy for advice on cat-rearing!
