I still haven't decided on the best way to do the Joypad Controller thing, yet.

-=-=-

It's all good and well deciding to have a "Joypad Activated" thing pop up onto the screen, but what do I do before that's happened?
What's the best way to say "You can use a Joypad, if you hit Button A", without literally flashing up on screen "You can use a Joypad, if you hit Button A"?

Maybe I should think about how oldskool arcade games did it.
Have an "Insert Coin", or "Press A to Join" thing at the top of the screen?
Would that work!?

Maybe then I could have a coin-slot sound play when the browser recognises a new Joypad, and it flashes up our nice new amazeballs message..

"Joypad Activated"
"Welcome to the game"
"Prepare for Excitement"
"Don't Die is your aim"

I dunno.
Either way, over on Mastodon, I got a message from Wade McGillis to let me know the particles were causing slowdown on his system. And, surprise surprise, he's using Firefox. So I instantly know what that bug is, and why it's happening.
Scaled, rotated sprites with mid-level alphas are shockingly slow on Firefox.
Or, they were, but at some point they managed to fix them.
Apparently they've broken them again, though, so I'm going to have to put back the lock that turns off sprite rotation on the particles, once the Alpha is <1.0
It makes the particles a little jarring, but if Firefox is going to continue to be oddly crap at doing that, then I guess that's the only option I have.

Sure would be nice to be able to say "Is this Firefox", but Chrome has started to pretend that it's Firefox in its Agent String, leading to all manner of issues that I can't quite figure out how I'm supposed to deal with.

Damn you Google!
