Having finally got my new iPad up and running, I had to transfer Mum's iPad over to my previous iPad.

First off, I had to restore my previous iPad (iPad Air 4th Gen) back to iPadOS 17, because the iPadOS 18 beta wouldn't play happily without a dev-account, and Mum's obviously not a dev-account!!
To do this, tap Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold Power until the iPad reboots, then plug it into a Mac and hit the restore button.
Easy enough.

Meanwhile, I got Mum's iPad doing an iCloud Backup because.. see yesterday's blog.
Once restored, I hit the transfer button on Mum's iPad Air (3rd Gen) and it asked me to point the camera at the swirling circle on the new iPad.
From there, a couple of quick questions, and off it went!!

Weeeee!!!!
Yeah!!!

Transferred the iPad directly from one to the other, no farting about with iCloud guff, just out of one, into the other. Nice and neat.
Took about 10 minutes.

What a drastic difference from the previous day and a half that it took for me to do mine, all because I was running the Beta version of iOS.
Lesson Learned : If you're even vaguely thinking about upgrading to a brand new Apple device, do NOT install any betas on the previous one!
Just don't!
It isn't worth it.

For the next few days, Mum will have TWO iPads. The 3rd and 4th Gen iPad Air.
She'll be trying out the 4th Gen, to see if she can get the hang of using a device that has no Home button. It's quite a large change.
Will she cope?
Who knows.
