Time to chill, relax a while, and let the Sunday flow over you as you glance at the error logs and scream in perpetual fear.

Over at SoCoder, we're having quite the issue with anything other than plain ASCII, in that unicode characters (including emoji) will cause the posting script to fail miserably.
I'm not 100% sure why this is, but even getting a pre-written emoji to show up onscreen is seemingly impossible on the new server.
This is bound to be an encoding rule, but having tried a whole bunch of options, I still can't get things to work right.

Honestly, this was way easier the last time, and I'm 99% sure I did everything the same way, so I'm guessing it's either Apache, PHP or MySQL at fault, here.
Who knows.

As far as this site goes, the script seems to be holding up without any major issues, so I think we're ok here!
... Maybe.

I spent a good hour or so getting all the .thumb images to be webp instead of png, which required a script to run through converting all the larger images down to new thumbnails, then uploading everything to the server. Honestly, took ages to run through. I have a lot of images on here!
The SoCoder uploads also needed the same kind of treatment, and once all those were done, I tweaked the upload script to generate them, too, and changed the BBCode to match the new functionality.
It seems to hold up rather well, and the new webp images, for the most part, are indeed a fair amount smaller in filesize.
Awesome!

Today's task. Postfix, which is a server's way of handling email.
I had a nightmare getting that to work on the old server. Not because it's hard to set up, but because it's alarmingly hard to get gmail to go "oh, I see, this is a real email", and not simply delete everything because it doesn't trust it.

Last time I ended up using SendInBlue, and .. if I can't get Postfix doing its job within a few hours, I'll likely give up and use that again.

Honestly, I'm really not up to all this setting up a server stuff.
Gah!
