Melodical Developments

Last night I re-rendered and uploaded the entire Precarious Al Bum to Archive.org

Annoyingly, I forgot to trim the tails on the tracks, so they all end with about a half-a-second of silence. Ooops..
I'll have to poke around in Archive.org's settings and see if I can update the files, but I imagine they're probably going to have to stay like that.
Aw well..

Meanwhile, I also created a new track for the Liquid Al Bum. I can't believe I'm already 6 tracks into this one. Seems like only a few weeks ago that I started it.
Adding more and more vegetables into the blender, today's Choon is Liquid Fennel!

.. and it's already gained 4 likes! o/yeayo/

Daily Doodle : Doctor Plat, Taking Blood

Dr Plat takes no prisoners.. He only takes blood.
I wonder what he's up to with all that blood?

Mailbag

Today's mail comes from Neil Crofts (@FilmingGrim)

Couple of bits for you to get your teeth into should you choose.

1) What matters more to you: Your games commercial success, the enjoyment of those that play your games, or the enjoyment you get from creating something unique?

2) Is there any game type/genre you particularly dislike?

3) If you haven't already, would you make a game for the game type/genre you most dislike?

Neil Crofts

1. I just love making games, and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters to me.
I do, of course, find it disheartening to release games as good as NeonPlat Adventures, BlastTrax and SpikeDislike3, and see their stats pretty much completely tank. I think, after a good month and a half, I can honestly call SpikeDislike3 a bit of a failure. It's not going anywhere, and that's a really big shame, because much the same as BlastTrax and NeonPlat Adventures, I really put a lot of myself into that game, and there was OODLES of interest before it's release.

.. But tomorrow's another day, and in the true spirit of AGameAWeek, next week is another game.
I should really get back to doing that, I think.

On a similar note, I was watching this week's RHLSTP with comedians Richard Herring and Mark Watson last night, and in the last half hour or so, they get to discussing this very same thing. Success and Money vs Doing it for the sake of enjoying doing it.
I found their thoughts very much aligned with my own. A good watch, if you too are frittering away your days creating stuff that nobody cares about

2. JRPGs.
Or, rather those annoyingly dull fights. The bits where the game goes from being a long dull story-driven wander, into a menu-driven "combat" mode. If it were possible to skip those boring menu-game bits, that'd be fine, but of course 95% of the stupid games have that annoying "Suddenly X Enemy Appears" gubbins, where enemies inexplicably sprout out from the ground, or leap out of the sky, or by any other completely illogical methods.
I hate that stuff. I really honestly can't stand it.
Which makes it even more frustrating when I try to get into a Pokemon game. I really do like the concept of those, but .. gah!!
So frustrating!!!

3. I've attempted to come up with something better than random fights and menu-based battles, but so far nothing decent's come to mind.
Greenie's MiniQuest(/MicroQuest/Little Adventure) is perhaps my best attempt, but I wouldn't exactly rank it in the top 100 of my games!
One day I'd like to find a perfect way to mix gameplay with crappy menus, but so far it's not happened.
Some day I'll find the secret ingredient..

If you'd like to stuff my mailbag, (please do!) you can do so right here, at https://bit.ly/AGAW_Mail. Send comments, questions, game ideas, thoughts and more, and they'll probably turn up here, eventually.
